The Math Interventionist role seeks a dynamic, committed educator with strong mathematical content and pedagogical knowledge, solid classroom management skills, a deep commitment to educational and racial equity, and experience in an urban school setting. This role involves collaborating with and planning instruction with classroom teachers, providing in-class co-teaching support, working with small groups in grades K-5, cooperating with personnel from the Office of Special Education (OSE) and the Office of Multilanguage Learners (MLL), and helping select appropriate materials. The interventionist will also work directly with the Instructional Coach and principal to support data monitoring and analysis, school improvement, and intervention work, and will support the implementation of the math curriculum.

Requirements

  • Mathematics teaching experience in the elementary grades with a proven track record of promoting high achievement in urban classrooms.
  • Experience writing lesson plans with clear, attainable learning goals and aligned activities.
  • Experience using a range of assessments to analyze student learning to inform instruction and monitor processes.
  • Experience facilitating high-performing teams of educators with the use of protocols.
  • Experience in analyzing student needs and providing small group, targeted math instruction for students who are not yet achieving at grade level standards.
  • Understanding of the developmental needs of learners and the strategies to meet those needs through the curriculum.
  • Understanding of the difference between a growth and a fixed mindset and how to support the development of a growth mindset in math learners.
  • Cultural Proficiency and culturally responsive teaching skills.
  • Strong classroom management skills.
  • Strong knowledge of Common Core/ MA Curriculum Framework for Mathematics.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, alongside the ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with a diverse staff and student body.
  • Ability to develop and maintain organizational structures while working on a variety of ongoing tasks.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Massachusetts Teacher Certification/Licensure in Mathematics required.
  • A strong work ethic, alongside a commitment to doing whatever it takes for students to excel.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of or interest in learning Integrow/Math Recovery assessments and instructional strategies
  • Master’s in Education strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Skillfully facilitate student learning of math content and practice standards through leading small group, targeted math instruction (intervention) and/or co-teaching Tier I instruction.
  • Organize and support the administration of school-wide screening assessments and associated data meetings 3 times each year.
  • Co-plan and facilitate different teams, such as child study and common planning teams.
  • Identify unique student needs and collaborate with educator team members to effectively address those needs and improve instructional practice.
  • Incorporate a variety of teaching and assessment strategies in order to inform and modify instruction, as well as target intervention and enrichment needs.
  • Attend grade-level team meetings with grade-level colleagues as assigned.
  • Partner with families to include them in each student’s learning and development, guided by a profound understanding of the importance of this connection.
  • Attend regular school and department meetings and serve on the school’s Instructional Leadership Team, which meets after school.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the school principal.
