About The Position

Detroit Community Schools is hiring a full time Math Interventionist / Paraprofessional . At DCS, we believe that Education is Power. The High School Math Interventionist / Paraprofessional supports students in developing essential mathematics skills through targeted interventions, small-group instruction, and classroom support. Working under the guidance of the teachers and the math department, this role assists students who need additional support to meet grade-level expectations and improve academic confidence. The position combines instructional assistance with data-informed math interventions to help students close learning gaps and succeed in high school coursework.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree, completion of paraprofessional certification, or equivalent experience (per state requirements).
  • Demonstrated competency in mathematics at the high school level.
  • Ability to work effectively with adolescents in a supportive and encouraging manner.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide targeted math intervention instruction to individuals and small groups of students.
  • Support students in building foundational math skills aligned with district curriculum and state standards.
  • Implement teacher-developed intervention plans and instructional strategies.
  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teachers and intervention teams.
  • Assist with math skill development in areas such as algebra readiness, problem solving, and numeracy.
  • Assist teachers during math classes by supporting instruction and reinforcing concepts.
  • Work with students who require additional guidance during class activities.
  • Help facilitate differentiated instruction and accommodations for diverse learners.
  • Support classroom management and maintain a positive learning environment.
  • Build positive relationships with students to support motivation and academic confidence.
  • Encourage effective study habits, organization, and perseverance in math learning.
  • Provide individualized assistance for students with academic skill gaps.
  • Track student progress related to intervention goals.
  • Assist in collecting and organizing assessment data.
  • Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and intervention teams to support student success.
  • Participate in team meetings and professional learning related to math support strategies.
