About The Position

Reporting to the Assistant Principal of Math and Science. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as illustration of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position. Teaches district-approved curriculum: prepares lesson plans accordingly. Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated. Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students. Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students. Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior. Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in alignment with the goals, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and the like to communicate these objectives to students. Evaluates students' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports. Is available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day. Any other relative teaching duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A master's degree in the instructional area.
  • Valid DESE Massachusetts Teaching Certificate in Math.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals.
  • Ability to write reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of students, parents, teachers, and the general public.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Must possess the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Ability to implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; ability to work effectively with all staff at all levels of the school district; skills in oral and written communication is required.

  • At least 5 years of experience is preferred.
