About The Position

The Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) Sonographer provides specialized high-risk obstetric ultrasound services to assist in the diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment of maternal and fetal conditions. This role performs a wide range of advanced OB ultrasound examinations and assists MFM physicians with invasive procedures such as amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling (CVS). The MFM Sonographer selects appropriate equipment and transducers, educates and positions patients, obtains relevant health histories, and communicates effectively with patients and support persons. This position requires advanced expertise in detecting and evaluating fetal pathology, communicating findings to the MFM physician, and ensuring diagnostic quality imaging for patient care.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program through the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health/Education Programs (CAAHEP).
  • American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) – Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (OB/GYN).
  • American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) Fetal Echocardiography (FE) registry, or ability to obtain within one (1) year of hire.
  • Demonstrates sound judgment, patience, and maintains a professional demeanor at all times.
  • Exercises tact, discretion, sensitivity, and maintains confidentiality.
  • Performs essential job functions successfully in a busy and stressful environment.
  • Learns current and new computer applications and office equipment utilized at Bozeman Health.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Analyzes, organizes, and prioritizes work while meeting multiple deadlines.
  • This role requires regular and sustained attendance.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years of related work experience in Maternal Fetal Medicine or a high-risk obstetrics setting.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of high-risk obstetric ultrasound studies according to established protocols.
  • Assist MFM physicians with invasive obstetric procedures such as amniocentesis and CVS.
  • Import images and clinical data into Viewpoint and PACS systems, ensuring accurate patient record documentation.
  • Evaluate fetal anatomy, growth, and well-being; identify abnormal findings and obtain additional images as directed.
  • Provide patient education and support before, during, and after procedures.
  • Maintain examination rooms, ensuring cleanliness, stocking of supplies, and readiness for procedures.
  • Perform high-level disinfection (HLD) of ultrasound transducers per infection control standards.
  • Collaborate with MFM physicians, advanced practice providers, and clinical staff to ensure coordinated patient care.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and departmental process improvements.
  • Mentor and support new sonographers and students in the MFM setting.
