About The Position

Basic Purpose Positions in this job family are assigned responsibilities involving the procurement, storage, control, issue and delivery of supplies and equipment used in the operation of an agency or institution. This may include responsibility for directing the operations of a large warehouse or other supply facility, responsibility for the statewide delivery of supplies and other materials, supervision of other supervisory personnel and various administrative responsibilities. It may also include supervising the operation of all storerooms where supplies are stored, and directing or coordinating procurement functions. Typical Functions Directs, supervises or performs materiel management activities for an agency or institution; plans and supervises the procurement of supplies and equipment or other material. Prepares or approves requisitions, purchase orders and other documents used in the procurement process; supervises the receipt of supplies and equipment; verifies shipping documents against invoices and other data. Directs the storage of food, clothing and other supplies and equipment; supervises the completion of perpetual inventory actions and the preparation of various reports. Insures that warehouse items are properly stored and protected to prevent breakage and pilferage; supervises the maintenance of warehouse physical facilities, trucks, forklifts and other equipment used in the storage of supplies and equipment. Develops, recommends and implements agency policies and procedures to insure compliance with federal and state laws and rules. Confers with department heads, vendors and outside agencies concerning purchases, deliveries and acceptability of supplies. May serve as agency liaison to the Central Purchasing Division of the Department of Central Services. Level Descriptor At this level employees are assigned responsibilities involving the management of a supply or materiel management function of moderate size and scope. In this role they will be responsible for all materiel management activities of an agency or institution including maintaining perpetual inventories, insuring proper storage of warehoused items, and meeting the needs of the agency for various supplies.

Requirements

  • Four years experience in supply or warehousing work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of relevant state and federal regulations
  • Knowledge of the methods and procedures for acquisition of supplies and equipment
  • Knowledge of warehouse principles, techniques and inventory methods
  • Knowledge of various types of mechanical equipment used in warehousing operations
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to take accurate inventories
  • Applicants must be willing and able to fulfill all job related travel normally associated with the position.
  • Upon a conditional offer of employment, Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services applicants must submit to a physical examination and shall meet the physical examination requirements of lifting/carrying 70 pounds occasionally, 25 pounds frequently and able to push and pull a maximum force of 40 pounds.
