JOB DESCRIPTION: Materials Technician II – Sample Prep – Research, Development & Innovation (RD&I) Location: Bayport, MN | Shift: 1st Shift, Onsite Andersen Corporation is seeking a self-motivated Materials Technician to join our dynamic Research, Development & Innovation (RD&I) Materials and Fabrication Team. This role provides critical hands-on support to engineers by preparing and evaluating samples that enable innovation across a wide range of materials and product platforms. Material development across thermoplastics, thermosets, sealants, glass, coatings, and adhesives Corner welding and joining technologies Packaging materials and construction Fenestration product life prediction testing Product development and design

Requirements

  • Associate degree (2-year technical degree) or equivalent practical experience
  • General proficiency with computers and basic software (Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Strong interest and foundational aptitude for technical or scientific work
  • Ability to safely operate power industrial trucks (e.g., forklift, pallet jack)
  • Experience using material preparation tools such as band saws, chop saws, table saws, and CNC equipment
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate cross-functionally and work effectively in a team environment
  • Flexibility to work variable hours to support testing needs and project deadlines
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs

Nice To Haves

  • 1–2 years of experience in material characterization/testing
  • Strong math, science, mechanical, and experimental skills
  • Willingness to learn and operate new software and equipment

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support within assigned work areas, including determining appropriate sample preparation methods and delivering accurately prepared and clearly labeled parts
  • Collaborate with engineers to prepare, develop, test, and evaluate materials, components, products, and processes
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance laboratory efficiency and quality
  • Prepare and maintain detailed documentation of test methods, procedures, and results under guidance
  • Manage multiple tasks while adapting to changing priorities and meeting project deadlines
  • Communicate anomalies, technical findings, and improvement proposals to team members
  • Build basic prototypes and fixtures by executing concepts developed by others
  • Work independently to complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision
  • Occasional travel required (approximately 5%); primary work location is Bayport, MN

  • In 2026 Andersen has set a profit-sharing target of $3,600 per eligible employee, prorated as appropriate. Profit Sharing will be paid out in quarterly installments to provide eligible employees with payments throughout the year, with payment amounts tied to quarterly operating profit performance.
