About The Position

The Forklift Operator is responsible for operating a forklift truck to move materials in the plant as well as load and unload trucks. Manages and maintains inventory levels and stock movements, ensuring sufficient stock to meet demand while minimizing inventory and costs. They track inventory, conduct audits, reconcile discrepancies, and analyze data to improve inventory efficiency.   • High school diploma or equivalent (GED); and pass the Fork Truck Training certification course.
  • Achievement of high school level math.
  • Ability to read and speak English and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute percent as well as draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Valid fork truck certification.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands, fingers, to handle and/or feel, and talk and/or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is sometimes required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and smell. The employee must be able to climb stairs and ladders. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 60 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Employee must be able to operate the fork truck in a safe and expeditious manner so that there are no delays in the manufacturing or in the shipping operations.
  • Employee must be able to safely and efficiently operate the lift at its maximum lift height (approximately 180”).

Responsibilities

  • Operate forklift to supply all materials to assigned areas.
  • Operate forklift to move finished units from manufacturing area to warehouse to load trucks as required
  • Operate fork trucks to empty scrap and trash hoppers.
  • Use scale to obtain scrap weights and complete record keeping
  • Operate fork trucks to load and unload trucks as required and follow trailer safety requirements
  • Daily inspection and maintenance of their assigned fork trucks
  • Use a production order to pull and assemble orders for shipment. This requires reading the order to determine the number of packages of each item needed and assembling all the items for shipment. Accuracy of counts and accuracy of information to the shipping foreman is extremely important. When the order is complete, advise of all items loaded and items not available for shipment
  • Sweep, clean, pick-up trash, and general house cleaning
  • Follow Company personnel and product safety requirements including standards such as those from SQF and internal GMPs
  • Follow proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous waste in accordance with State and Federal laws
  • Store materials in designated areas. Use barcode scanner to record material locations. Inspect condition of material and accuracy of paperwork
  • Observe and inspect all loads before pickup for proper strapping and ticket identification
  • Operate forklift in a safe manner so as not to jeopardize the safety of personnel or damage to metal or equipment
  • Maintaining accurate records of inventory levels and stock movements
  • Conducting regular inventory audits and reconciling discrepancies
  • Monitoring and maintaining optimal stock levels
  • Collaborating with other departments to forecast inventory needs
  • Analyzing inventory data to identify trends and make recommendations for inventory optimization
  • Identifying and resolving issues related to stockouts or overstock
  • Organizing and maintaining the physical arrangement of inventory in a warehouse or storage area
  • Communicating with other departments to address inventory-related issues
  • Placing inventory and supply orders
  • Training staff in inventory and stocking procedures
  • Communicating damaged or missing products to management
  • Other duties as assigned
