About The Position

SUMMARY OF POSITION: Directs and coordinates activities of material planning / purchasing & customer service personnel engaged in MRP based planning and purchasing of materials required to manufacture Maysteel deliverable products. The Materials Manager and the planning / purchasing organization ensure that every step of the planning / purchasing process is functioning effectively to avoid costly delays and lost sales. Additional responsibilities include oversight of stockrooms and material handling activities as well as controlling inventory and cycle counting.

Requirements

  • Education – Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree plus 5 years of progressively more responsible positions in the Purchasing/Sourcing/Production Control Department including supervisory responsibilities or equivalent education plus experience including management experience.
  • Experience: Two to five plus years in a manufacturing/logistics/sourcing environment in a Management role that included exposure to Lean Principles – KanBan Implementation, establishing MSA, Root Cause Analysis training and experience, Lead Sourcing Projects, Exposure to ISO certification requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the plant wide material planning / purchasing functions to assure timely release and completion of manufacturing orders.
  • Responsible for creating and updating the production schedule that achieves on time shipping performance to customers’ requested date and maintains annual inventory turns per agreed upon targets.
  • Responsible for maintaining the master build schedule, controlling inventory and associated cost, and responding to customer needs.
  • Supervise and direct department employees ensuring work is accurate, timely and in accordance with company policies and procedures
  • Work with the Maysteel leadership to develop manufacturing systems using MacPac MRP scheduling to support customers, suppliers, as well as the rest of the corporation.
  • Through consistent communication with CSRs, develop customer relationships that distinguish Maysteel from our competition.
  • Work with the production departments on a daily basis to maintain focus on production orders to satisfy customer due dates.
  • Manages stockroom to ensure all materials are accurately located and controlled.
  • Develop material distribution processes to assure timely and correct allocation of material to production operations.
  • Manages inventory through cycle counting assignments, warehouse inventory review, and annual physical inventory.
  • Investigates discrepancies.
  • Determines reduction opportunities and disposition of obsolete materials.
  • Develops procedures to ensure accuracy of inventory.
  • Reviews and updates ERP information (inventory counts, material requirements, sales/customer forecasts, routing information, labor, etc.) to ensure accuracy.
  • Attends and participates in various planning, purchasing, and informational meetings.
  • Review and recommend staffing requirements to meet production needs.
  • Assist in the interviewing process and new employee on-boarding and training.
  • Manages the Cycle count process and labor reporting to ensure accurate inventories.
  • Manage the tactical purchasing function to reduce lead time with the best total cost.
  • Suppliers to be developed to support lean manufacturing philosophy.
