Performs tasks and provides services to support the plant’s overall business plans and objectives as directed. What you'll be doing: Complies with established job safety practices, policies and procedures as specified in plant and corporate directives for the safe performance of the work assignment. Responsible for maintaining a safe and secure work environment. This includes correcting unsafe acts/conditions, participating in monthly safety meetings, performing monthly safety inspections, and investigating accidents, as required. Supports and follows the SQF (Safe Quality Food System) guidelines of the food safety system. Follows company policies, standard operating procedures (SOP), practices and Sonoco’s Global Code of Conduct. Assists in identifying and developing qualified suppliers that can ensure exceptional quality, delivery and cost reductions. Sources and procures products and services. Coordinates production and delivery requirements to meet operating needs. Assists with negotiations with suppliers and works with manager to make final procurement decision. Resolves procurement issues in a fair and ethical manner. Works with accounting and suppliers to resolve invoicing issues. Maintains and updates database on suppliers and items used in one or more operations. Manages expediting activities through supplier contacts, and track material receipts. Processes return material transactions and works with suppliers to get errors corrected. May take physical inventory of inventoried items on a monthly basis and cost the inventory. May monitor warehousing inventory at multiple locations. May participate in inventory accuracy programs i.e. cycle counts. Manages ODM inventory. Works with plants to keep their inventory levels at a minimum. Provides updated material prices to the appropriate department to be used in quotations. Provides trend analysis in pricing or availability of assigned materials to Manager. Keep management informed on new products and provide industry knowledge in the assigned commodity groupings. May coordinate the purchases for multi plant operations including follow up on the delivery schedule. Maintains and updates procurement policies and operating instructions. Secures SDS’ from suppliers as needed. Solicits, reviews, and analyzes requests for quotations for assigned items from suppliers or potential suppliers. Works with Production Planning to ensure scheduled orders are completed on schedule. Data entry, inventory reconciliation, and reviews of variances. Develops stocking levels for critical inventory items. Other duties as assigned.
