The Materials Manager is responsible for executing purchasing, production planning, and inventory management activities for the entire site, with a focus on best practice processes and achieving an optimal supply chain relative to metrics of Quality, Cost, and Delivery as determined by the Operating Company. Key Responsibilities: Develop strategic plan to achieve supply chain objectives, to include identifying and implementing spend strategies for the site. Responsible for supporting new product development and the ECN process as it pertains to purchasing and production planning. Responsible to maintain and development a material cost savings funnel in line with the Operating Company objectives. Responsible for driving identified and approved projects to completion. Manage sourcing projects and assume responsibility for Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). Manage supplier performance through supplier scorecards working with Supplier Quality Engineer. Measure monthly and annual materials goals that support the site objectives. Utilize value stream mapping and other lean tools to streamline processes and minimize inventory. Participates in the S&OP process. Assist in product life cycle analysis process for the Kanban/ERP and own all direct material Kanban implementation and management. Maintain an assertive follow-up system to ensure plant production schedule compliance. Own, teach, and manage the execution of Plan for Every Part (PFEP), Every Part Every Interval (EPEI), Optimizers, and other lean production planning tools. Understand impacts to MRP & ERP with any future system changes. Interface with Management, Supervision, Customer Service, Quality, Finance, Engineering and Operations. Evaluates and suggests Make/Buy decisions. Negotiate MRO/Indirect material contracts and other major capital purchases. Work directly with Operating Company Sourcing group on project implementation. May participate in Altra-wide global projects on an as needed basis. Critical Competencies: Ownership of inventory management utilizing a Kanban system Strong negotiation skills, including a sound understanding of commercial, regulatory, and intellectual property elements of a contract Strong knowledge of strategic sourcing methodology and its application Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of employees and managers, customers, and suppliers Ability to partner with shop floor Supervision to execute continuous improvement PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Finance, Engineering, or related field, or commensurate experience, required Experience in Production Planning within a plant environment, required Minimum 5 years of experience in a Material Manager/Supervisor role, required Experience of Kanban process, preferred Experience in managing suppliers of raw steel, castings, and ball bearings, preferred Physical Demand and Work Environment: Physical Demands – while performing the duties in this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and sit. Work Environment – the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
