About The Position

This is an entry-level, part time position that contributes directly to a positive customer experience through the timely organizing and shelving of returned library materials. This open recruitment will be used to fill current openings at library locations throughout Weber County. JOB OVERVIEW: As a member of the Library's program implementation team, under the supervision of the branch manager and the circulation manager, this employee contributes to the daily operations of the Library System by sorting and shelving materials; shelf-reading and shifting shelves to maintain ordered, safe condition; pulling materials to fill hold requests, inspecting newly returned materials for damage, and processing new materials to prepare them for checkout. This position may be assigned to the Library's technical services area or in the circulation area of any Library building.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of alphabetization and basic arithmetic.
  • Understanding of the relationships and responsibilities of Library divisions and buildings.
  • Understanding of Library mission and roles, and the general role of public libraries within a community.
  • Ability to communicate in more than one language preferred.
  • Ability to work methodically with strict attention to detail.
  • Ability to complete assigned tasks within established time frame.
  • Ability to work as a team member to accomplish results.
  • A commitment to public service and the ability to work effectively with a diverse patron base.
  • Ability to implement Library Board policies and procedures.
  • Education: Any
  • Experience: Previous library or retail customer service experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Sort and shelve materials according to the Dewey Decimal Classification scheme and established Library procedure.
  • Process new materials for checkout.
  • Maintain Library shelves in ordered, neat condition through shifting and shelf-reading.
  • Locate and retrieve requested materials to fill hold requests.
  • Collate and clean returned materials to discover damage and maintain integrity of the collection
  • Uphold established mending/repair procedures for print/nonprint collections
  • Set up meeting venues for public events
  • Assist the public, on a limited basis, directing them to general resources, event locations, and service points within the building
  • Preserve safety, appearance, and condition of Library facilities and property
