About The Position

General Matter is seeking a Materials Engineer to lead the development, qualification, and continuous improvement of the materials and processes that underpin our enrichment technology. This is a highly technical, hands-on role requiring experience designing and executing corrosion evaluations, as well as a deep understanding of corrosion mechanisms, materials degradation pathways, and surface chemistry fundamentals. The ideal candidate will combine rigorous scientific intuition with practical lab skills to identify failure modes, develop mitigation strategies, and drive material innovations that enhance performance, reliability, and manufacturability across our systems.

Requirements

  • Evidence of exceptional ability (prior projects, portfolio of work, completed products, etc).
  • Bachelor’s degree in materials engineering, materials science, chemical engineering, or chemistry.
  • 2+ years of experience in a materials engineering related role.
  • 1+ years of experience with corrosion, coatings, paints and/or electrochemistry.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in corrosion engineering, materials science, chemical engineering, chemistry, or similar.
  • Understanding of mechanical testing methods for metals including fracture and fatigue.
  • Familiarity with standard testing methods for materials and development of design allowables.
  • Hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience working with UF6.

Responsibilities

  • Provide materials and process support for hardware teams.
  • Increase reliability and manufacturability of hardware through material and process development.
  • Perform root cause investigations using fractography, metallography, and testing.
  • Own definition, qualification, and implementation of corrosion mitigations across all hardware.
  • Develop in-house material compatibility database through test.
  • Root cause corrosion-related findings and drive further action for continuous improvement.
