About The Position

Peraton is hiring a part-time Materials Engineer, Corrosion SME at the Redstone Arsenal, Alabama who will provide technical recommendations to Structures & Materials Division (SMD) of the Army's Aviation Engineering Directorate, AMCOM Program Managers and field Commanders on all materials related processes involving development, operation, repair and maintenance of the Army aviation fleet. What you will do: This includes structural repairs, dynamic component replacement, corrosion and erosion protection and environmental impacts for aircraft and aircraft subsystems Provide technical recommendations to SMD managers, Program Managers and other Army agencies regarding materials applications, materials qualification, and manufacturing processes for developmental systems and modifications of existing fleet platforms Special emphasis will be placed on the development and application of corrosion and environmental activities and repairs to composite components of the fielded and future Army aircraft Standard repairs will be prepared for existing fielded systems as well as special repairs for field reported damage The position requires the ability to apply engineering and scientific principles to analyze designs and processes involved in the development and sustainment of rotary and fixed wing aircraft in worldwide operations Provide technical input for various projects for new coatings, plating’s, and adhesives driven by the current impact on environmental and personnel exposure to hazardous chemicals. Audit component qualifications for items that are part of an unexpected escapement, part of an obsolescent order replacement, or requesting data to be used for reverse engineering of a qualified part.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 14 years with AA/AS, 12 years with BS/BA, 10 years with MS/MA, 7 years with PhD or HS Diploma w/16 years.
  • Must be familiar with material specifications and standards governing corrosion prevention and environmental material applications
  • Must be familiar with the qualification of new military grade corrosion prevention coatings and paints
  • Must have a strong understanding of qualification requirements for corrosion protection as applies to aircraft and knowledge of the impact of environment on structural properties
  • Must have experience with quality control and NDT of hardware and structures
  • Must be experienced in the requirements for alternative components that have critical characteristics being added to existing qualified parts lists
  • Security: Must adhere to all U. S. government security rules, regulations and policies and possess or be eligible for a SECRET clearance

Nice To Haves

  • Additional knowledge of composites, cure cycles, hot and cold bonding and use of adhesives, is highly desirable
  • Experience with the development of field repairs for aerospace composite structure is desired
