About The Position

Overview Supply Chain/ManufacturingThis position coordinates material flow in the plant by verifying materials inventory balances at POU (point of use), stage, & warehouse locations are sufficient to meet material planning targets. Facilitates inventory move prioritization with forkliftdrivers to support material targets at all locations of the plant. Data input of part numbers and data research skills to find and update status of parts in JDE, RFGen, and other plant Supply Chain planning tools. Able to read blueprints and production schedules. Able to drive a forklift to move bundles & crates around for ease of staging. Communicates materialshortages immediately to cross-functional team. Facilitates the NCM process daily. Central Fabrication/ZinkPowerThis position coordinates material flow between Central Fab and Zink Power as well as from Zink Power to the other Great Dane facilities. This position also acts as the onsite liaison between Central Fab and Zink Power to resolve any questions and streamline communication and problem resolution. This position is responsible for verifying materials inventory balances of pre-galvanized part numbers as well as post galvanized part numbers at Zink Power and Central Fab locations.Facilitate inventory move prioritization with forklift drivers and ensures material is properly identified and tagged post galvanization. Data input of part numbers and data research skills to find and update status of parts in JDE, RFGen, and other plant Supply Chain planning tools. Able to read blueprints and production schedules. Able to drive a forklift to move bundles & crates around for ease of staging. Responsible for strapping flatbed loads between Zink Power and Central Fab. Communicates material shortages immediately to cross-functional teams. Ensures correct material is shipped to the correct Great Dane facilities through identifying orders in JDE. Creates paperwork and Bills of Lading to ship with loads. Maximizes truck load quantities as much as possible.

Requirements

  • Employee must be able to safely and efficiently operate material handling equipment including forklift.
  • Employee must be able to perform and remember how to perform multiple tasks from day to day.
  • Employee must be able to perform the physical requirements listed in that section of this job description.
  • Employee must look for potential cost savings in the work process, help keep scrap and waste to a minimum and be efficient in use of all supplies.
  • Time standard is dependent on the process being performed, customer specification, volume and location.
  • The employee must perform the assigned tasks in a manner in which they meet or exceed the required production level.
  • The quantity of units, parts, assemblies and/ or installations that is expected will vary with the process being performed, customer specification, volume and location.
  • Accurately conduct physical inventory counts, communicate material quality and quantity deficiency, and maintain daily inventory adjustments and transactions in JDE, RFGen.
  • Give direction to forklift drivers on picking and delivery of material to specific locations throughout the facility.
  • Education: GED or high school diploma is preferred.
  • Experience: Prior experience in heavy assembly work is preferred.
  • Must be able to perform work with little supervision.
  • May be asked to assist in the training of new employees.
  • Forklift certification required.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure - whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
  • Must possess computer/data entry skills.
  • Ability to accurately read a tape measure and other measuring tools.
  • Ability to work with hands and to work in mechanically oriented situations following supervisor’s instruction.
  • Aptitude to learn and retain new information.
  • Ability to follow instructions, given either verbally or in writing.
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English.
  • Ability to stand and move about on concrete 8-12 hours a day. Ability to see, walk, bend, reach, grasp, stoop, kneel, twist, crawl, carry, climb (including ladders), work overhead, push and pull.
  • Ability to do heavy lifting (up to 50 pounds) multiple times daily in an 8 to 12 hour shift.
  • Ability to maneuver large parts and assemblies (up to 180 pounds) by pushing, pulling and flipping them into place.
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness.
  • Employees must wear all mandated PPE which includes, at a minimum, protection for the eyes, ears, hands, head, body and feet.

Responsibilities

  • Physically counts purchased and fabricated parts on a daily basis.
  • Investigates issues with material and inventory variances. Recommends possible solutions, resolutions, etc.
  • Posts and maintains material planning & NCM files.
  • Prioritizes inventory moves to effectively support uninterrupted production.
  • Identify locations where material should be placed by forklift driver.
  • Perform 5S in areas of responsibility.
  • Return to stock material that is no longer needed.
  • Prepare information about what material is needed where and when and at what quantity. Coordinate delivery of material with forklift drivers.
  • Assist Cycle Counters in counting lineside material.
  • Facilitate and coordinate NCM process for respective areas.
  • All other duties as assigned.
  • Ensure parts readiness, inventory accuracy, and uninterrupted production flow through proactive planning, detailed analysis, and continuous cross-functional communication.
  • Prepare and distribute the daily Morning Report, ensuring part-related information is accurate, complete, and ready for production review; review prior shift recaps, emails, MPOUs, and part communications, and investigate and resolve missing or inaccurate information.
  • Verify readiness of main component sub-assemblies within system tools and prepare parts status updates for daily production meetings.
  • Proactively identify schedule and parts-related risks and communicate potential impacts to Production, Supply Chain, Warehouse, Master Scheduling, and other key stakeholders.
  • Run and analyze the As Required Overview report; investigate past-due purchase orders, partial receipts, and quantity discrepancies; communicate findings and required corrective actions.
  • Audit and follow up on Corporate Buyer–managed parts to resolve chronic shortages, delivery issues, and system inaccuracies.
  • Track and manage critical BIGS parts and galvanizing operations, maintaining forward-looking visibility; monitor daily status and escalate issues as required.
  • Monitor purchased and fabricated parts throughout the day; update hold-up and fabrication lists, coordinate pick lists, and assist with part identification and location.
  • Investigate serial and lot number discrepancies, parts issued without closed operations, and inventory losses; issue parts, close operations, and coordinate corrections with cycle counters, Production, Warehouse, and Supply Chain.
  • Review and update causal codes daily to ensure accurate root-cause documentation and system integrity.
  • Research shop orders, bills of material (BOMs), and prints to validate part requests and resolve charge-out, configuration, or usage issues in coordination with Sales, Engineering, FAB, Supply Chain, and Production.
  • Ensure non-conforming parts are properly scrapped or rejected; audit non-conforming bins for correct tagging, segregation, and disposition.
  • Maintain multiple Excel-based tracking tools and provide accurate, timely parts status updates to stakeholders.
  • Support administrative functions including manning roster updates and submission of action or termination forms, as assigned.
  • Coordinate closely with Sales regarding hot jobs, customer-furnished parts, and other urgent production priorities.
  • Maintain continuous communication with Supply Chain and FAB to support production continuity and on-time delivery.
  • Identifies and tags material post galvanization.
  • Strap loads between Zink Power, Central Fab and Terre Haute trailer assembly.
  • Ensure the proper material is shipped out to the correct Great Dane locations.
  • Periodically weighs components to audit coating weights to GD standard.
  • Ensure proper paperwork and bills of lading are created and shipped with each load.
  • Maximizes load density as much as possible to create full truck loads that weigh out or cube out whenever possible.
