About The Position

TransitAmerica Services, Inc. is currently seeking a Materials Clerk in Oakland, CA to join our team. The pay range for this position is $28.66 - $37.74/hr. Duties and Responsibilities: This is a non-exhaustive overview of the job duties for this position. Perform all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards. Review material or service requisitions and issues materials to department personnel. Compares nomenclature, stock numbers, authorized substitutes, and other listed information with catalogs, manuals, parts lists, and similar references to verify accuracy of requisitions. Prepares receiving memos and enters inventory information into computer information system. Prepares and issues purchase orders. Maintains documentation and procurement records such as materials or services purchased, costs, delivery, product quality or performance, inventories, and all documents concerned with ordering, receiving, storing, issuing and shipping materials, supplies, and equipment including purchase orders, packing slips, bills of lading, and receiving memos. Unloads and unpacks incoming shipments. Counts, measures or weighs articles to verify contents against bills of lading, packing slips, and invoices or purchase orders. Examines incoming materials for conformance to specifications, defects and quality assurance. Identifies, labels and stocks incoming materials. Discuss defective or unacceptable goods or services with managers, users, vendors and others to determine source of trouble and take corrective action. Prepares and conducts periodic, special or perpetual inventory counts and enters into computer information system. Verifies computer information computations against physical count of stock, investigates and reports reasons for discrepancies, and adjusts errors in computation or count. Prepares reports such as inventory balance, price lists, and shortages. Assists in layout of stockroom, warehouse, and other storage areas, considering turnover size, weight, and related factors of items stored. Responsible for maintaining, organizing, inspecting and cleaning material storage areas. Determine methods of materials, supplies, tools and parts storage, identification, and stock location considering temperature, humidity, height and weight limits, turnover, floor loading capacities, required space, security and safety. Store’s material in bins, on floor, or on shelves, according to identifying information such as style, size, or type of material. Assemble and/or fabricate storage containers. Compiles inventory control records and information such as consumption rate and characteristics of items in storage to determine stock supply and levels and need for replenishment and maintain the determined stock levels. Coordinate, prepare, pack and load outgoing shipments. Responsible for calibration of measuring instruments and tools. Drives company vehicle to perform pickup and deliveries, including traveling to satellite sites in Oakland, Sacramento, and Bakersfield. Assists Materials Manager in day-to-day activities including special projects. Individuals may perform other duties as assigned including work in other areas to cover absences or relief to equalize peak work periods or otherwise balance the workload. Ability to work flexible hours when required, including nights and weekends. Regular and consistent engagement, participation, and promotion of Herzog’s Culture and its essential behaviors are a requirement for this position. Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are a requirement for this position. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be proficient in MS word, Excel, the Internet and mainframe operations as it relates to inventory control, procurement, and related software.
  • Knowledge of purchasing/accounting processes, warehouse and inventory control policies and procedures, along with a minimum two years’ inventory control / shipping & receiving related experience desired.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and time management skills required.
  • Ability to operate forklift, pallet jack, shop cranes, and other shop equipment, some mechanical inclination is preferred.
  • Ability to read parts manuals and schematics.
  • Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
  • Maintain a valid driver's license and endorsements as required per position.
  • Subject to pre-employment physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen due to the safety sensitive nature of this position.
  • Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.
  • Able to walk on uneven surfaces.
  • Regularly lift weight up to 50 pounds to waist height.
  • Regularly lift up to 50 pounds to waist height and carry for a distance up to 10 feet.
  • Work in a confined access/space environment with a width of 24 inches.
  • Must be able to adapt to various temperature extremes including but not limited to heat, cold, moisture and wind.
  • Able to tolerate repetitive movements: bending and overhead reaching.
  • Regularly ascend/descend a platform with a height of up to 12 inches from the floor.
  • Regularly ascend/descend a ladder while carrying 35 pounds of equipment.
  • Regularly climb stairs while carrying 50 pounds of equipment.
  • Frequently bend, crouch, stand and sit for extended time.
  • Able to work in a safety sensitive work environment.
  • Must successfully pass color/vision examinations as required by the position.
  • Must be able to hear and distinguish auditory signals as required by the position.
