We presently have a full-time (temporary) position for a Buyer Trainee at our Elkmont, Alabama Manufacturing Plant. The hours for this role are Monday through Friday with a flexible morning schedule. This position reports to the Materials Purchasing Manager.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field, MBA preferred.
  • One to three (1-3) years’ experience in purchasing, accounting and inventory control practices and procedures and/or manufacturing preferred.
  • Previous inventory management experience.
  • Strong negotiating skills.
  • Good interactive people skills with the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, management, and/or individuals.
  • Collaborator and team leader when needed.
  • Ability to apprise a situation and counsel team members accordingly.
  • Work safely as a condition of hire and continued employment.
  • Able to negotiate and write contracts for MRO and direct supplies (following standardized company templates).
  • Ability to manage new product and process improvement projects in a demanding environment.
  • Experience with MRP/ERP systems is required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop strategies to control Cost, Quality, Delivery, and Product improvement in the Supply Base.
  • Raw material/supply purchasing.
  • Develop and execute strategies for continuous improvement of overall total cost of procurement. This should include cost and inventory reduction, delivery performance, and quality improvement.
  • Interact with all departments within the plant to discuss supplies, tooling and services required.
  • Identify and dispose of obsolete material.
  • Identify activities and conditions requiring corrective action, communicate recommendations regarding these matters to the Purchasing Manager and/or plant supervisors for actions to be taken to remedy the matter.
  • Coordinate purchasing projects with suppliers, including all contracts, purchase orders, tooling agreements, etc.
  • Keep project timelines on track. This would include assuring parts are quoted based on current sourcing strategies.
  • Keep all documentation up to date including tooling agreements, contracts, initial stocking levels, and PPAPs.
  • Coordinate major resourcing projects for the plant.
  • Assure insourcing opportunities are maximized.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
