About The Position

Materials Technician II – Research, Development & Innovation (RD&I) Location: Bayport, MN | Shift: 1st Shift, Onsite Andersen Corporation is seeking a self-motivated Materials Technician to join our energetic Research, Development & Innovation (RD&I) Materials and Fabrication Team. This role provides critical support to engineers leading projects in areas such as: Material development across thermoplastics, thermosets, sealants, glass, coatings, and adhesives Corner welding and joining technologies Packaging materials and construction Fenestration product life prediction testing Product development and design

Requirements

  • 2-year technical degree or equivalent experience
  • General knowledge and use of computers and basic software (Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Strong interest and basic aptitude for technical or scientific work
  • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally and work effectively as part of a team
  • Flexibility to work varied hours to support testing assignments and deadlines
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs

Nice To Haves

  • 1–2 years of experience in material characterization/testing
  • Ability to operate power industrial trucks (forklift, pallet jack, etc.)
  • Strong math, science, mechanical, and experimental skills
  • Willingness to learn and operate new software and equipment

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for assigned work areas, including determining appropriate test procedures, reporting clear and accurate results, and participating in continuous improvement activities
  • Collaborate with engineers to prepare, develop, test, and evaluate materials, parts, products, and processes
  • Assist engineers in drawing conclusions and informing decisions on new and existing product development and quality initiatives
  • Prepare and maintain detailed documentation of test methods and data under direction
  • Manage tasks with flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and meet project deadlines
  • Present technical information and proposals to team members
  • Create basic prototypes and fixtures to support assigned work areas by executing concepts developed by others
  • Work independently to complete assigned tasks as needed
  • Occasional travel required (approximately 5%); primary work location is Bayport, MN
