Material Testing and Fabrication Technician II
About The Position
Materials Technician II – Research, Development & Innovation (RD&I) Location: Bayport, MN | Shift: 1st Shift, Onsite Andersen Corporation is seeking a self-motivated Materials Technician to join our energetic Research, Development & Innovation (RD&I) Materials and Fabrication Team. This role provides critical support to engineers leading projects in areas such as: Material development across thermoplastics, thermosets, sealants, glass, coatings, and adhesives Corner welding and joining technologies Packaging materials and construction Fenestration product life prediction testing Product development and design
Requirements
- 2-year technical degree or equivalent experience
- General knowledge and use of computers and basic software (Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
- Strong interest and basic aptitude for technical or scientific work
- Ability to collaborate cross-functionally and work effectively as part of a team
- Flexibility to work varied hours to support testing assignments and deadlines
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
Nice To Haves
- 1–2 years of experience in material characterization/testing
- Ability to operate power industrial trucks (forklift, pallet jack, etc.)
- Strong math, science, mechanical, and experimental skills
- Willingness to learn and operate new software and equipment
Responsibilities
- Provide technical support for assigned work areas, including determining appropriate test procedures, reporting clear and accurate results, and participating in continuous improvement activities
- Collaborate with engineers to prepare, develop, test, and evaluate materials, parts, products, and processes
- Assist engineers in drawing conclusions and informing decisions on new and existing product development and quality initiatives
- Prepare and maintain detailed documentation of test methods and data under direction
- Manage tasks with flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and meet project deadlines
- Present technical information and proposals to team members
- Create basic prototypes and fixtures to support assigned work areas by executing concepts developed by others
- Work independently to complete assigned tasks as needed
- Occasional travel required (approximately 5%); primary work location is Bayport, MN
