About The Position

Caterpillar is seeking a Material Requirements Planning Manager in Decatur, IL. In this role you will be primarily responsible for maintaining agreed-upon inventory levels to provide a flow of raw materials and components from the supply chain to the manufacturing facility.

Requirements

  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • College or university degree related to Supply Chain, or equivalent experience, is desired
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and leadership skills

  • Strong supplier relationship management skills
  • The ability to develop and deploy creative / original solutions to complex problems
  • Thorough understanding of company policies and procedures, especially supplier-focused Caterpillar initiatives
  • Solid logistics and manufacturing knowledge
  • Planning (Tactical & Strategic): Develops and aligns detailed tactical plans with broader strategic objectives, ensuring resource allocation, dependencies, and departmental plans are integrated with the overall business plan.
  • Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Applies structured critical thinking techniques to gather and organize relevant data, clarify and prioritize concerns, document stakeholders and processes, and support risk‑ and benefit‑based decision making.
  • Logistics Management: Supports domestic logistics operations by using established tools and systems to forecast delivery, manage costs, maintain shipment records, track lead times, and contribute to process and network improvements.
  • Supply Chain Management: Contributes to supply chain activities by recognizing relevant systems, participating in analysis to identify trends and improvements, and supporting integration considerations across specific supply chain processes.

  • APICS CPIM or CSPC National Certification highly desired

Responsibilities

  • Ensures inventory stockroom conditions meet defined environmental and handling requirements for all materials and products.
  • Manages staffing, training, development, and performance of materials management personnel while supporting effective labor relations.
  • Establishes, monitors, and maintains optimal inventory levels through analysis and data‑driven recommendations.
  • Coordinates the maintenance, support, and effective use of inventory management systems and software.
