About The Position

Coastal Waste & Recycling is seeking an Operations Manager to join our team in Fort Myers! This is a great entry level opportunity to join a growing company and team! The Operations Manager – Material Recovery Facility (MRF) is responsible for overseeing the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the recycling facility. This role leads day-to-day plant operations, supervises front-line leaders and hourly staff, and ensures the facility meets production, quality, safety, and environmental standards. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who understands recycling operations, material flow, and equipment performance — and knows how to lead people in a fast-paced, industrial environment.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in recycling, waste management, manufacturing, or industrial plant operations
  • 2+ years of experience managing supervisors and hourly teams
  • Strong understanding of MRF operations, production flow, and equipment performance
  • Proven track record of driving safety, quality, and operational efficiency
  • Ability to lead in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment
  • Comfortable using basic technology for reporting, scheduling, and communication

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with conveyors, screens, balers, and sorting systems is a strong plus

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily MRF operations, including material processing, sorting, baling, shipping, and residue management
  • Lead, coach, and hold supervisors and plant employees accountable for safety, attendance, productivity, and quality
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and company safety and environmental standards
  • Monitor production metrics such as throughput, recovery rates, contamination levels, downtime, and labor efficiency
  • Partner closely with Maintenance to ensure equipment uptime, preventive maintenance, and quick response to breakdowns
  • Manage staffing levels, scheduling, and overtime to meet production goals
  • Support hiring, onboarding, training, and ongoing development of site employees
  • Address employee relations issues and foster a strong safety-first culture
  • Communicate operational performance, challenges, and improvement opportunities to Market and Corporate leadership
