About The Position

Provide material engineering guidance on projects and processes pertaining to materials and metallurgical processes. Be capable of providing services to include identification, characterization, testing, and evaluation of various materials and substances such such as metallic alloys, etc. Be knowledgeable of lab test equipment and maintain laboratory equipment to ensure equipment contracts, servicing and calibration scheduling. This includes specialized certifications as required. Utilize the equipment to identify unknown material, issue a report to the customer and maintain a filing system for records. Be knowledgeable of and capable of performing Sensitization of 5000 series Aluminum testing per ASTM G67 requirements. Submit data results from ASTM G67 tests to approving authority semi-annually to maintain lab certification. Perform Non-Destructive testing on 5XXX series Aluminum utilizing a Degree of Sensitization Probe. Perform Spectro Analysis on Metals via Xray equipment, Florescence Spectrometer and Optical Emission Spectrometer for unknown material identification and material verification. Perform hardness test of various metals utilizing Brinell Hardness tester and Rockwell Hardness Tester. Coordinate with ships force to perform Silicon Aluminum Bronze testing on union nuts for high-pressure systems to include High Pressure Air, SCBA, Halon, Hydraulics, Steering, RAST, CPP and Anchor Handling, generate report and maintain a filing system for records.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • 4 years of full-time experience with the materials lab analysis or engineering support
  • Must be proficient in MS Office
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Pursuant to the various government contractual requirements, all applicants must be U.S. Citizens
  • Requires walking, reaching, sitting and concentration in the presence of occasional noise
  • Ability to lift, carry and move objects up to 50 lbs. in weight
  • Ability to work in office, warehouse, laboratory, pier side, and shipboard locations.
  • Noise conditions range from very quiet to loud, hearing protection may be required at times.
  • May be required to go aloft onboard ships to inspect Tanks, Voids, Spaces, and Superstructures.
