About The Position

The Material Handler is responsible for safely and efficiently moving, staging, and supplying materials used in the nail wood reel assembly area of the facility. This position spends approximately 75% of the shift operating a forklift and 25% performing on-foot material handling to support wood reel production. The role ensures assembly stations receive the correct wood components, finished reels are transported properly, and inventory remains accurate and organized.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous material handling, warehouse, or manufacturing experience required; plastics or extrusion experience preferred.
  • Strong forklift experience; valid forklift certification or ability to become certified.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Comfortable working in varying temperatures and industrial environments.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a forklift for the majority of the shift to move wood components, including flanges, boards/planks, cores, hubs, and pallets of assembled or partially assembled reels.
  • Supply nail wood assembly stations with all required materials such as wood flanges, cut boards, wedges, hubs, nails, fasteners, and hardware.
  • Load and unload materials using forklifts, pallet jacks, or other approved equipment to keep assembly areas stocked and running efficiently.
  • Transfer completed wooden reels and partially assembled components to designated staging, storage, or shipping areas.
  • Perform floor-level material handling, including sorting, inspecting, labeling, and staging wood components before assembly.
  • Maintain accurate inventory counts when pulling, issuing, restocking, or returning materials to the warehouse or production floor.
  • Monitor daily material levels and notify leadership when wood components, nails, fasteners, or pallets require replenishment.
  • Assist with cycle counts and inventory audits to maintain accuracy and prevent material shortages.
  • Ensure all wood components and hardware are properly labeled, stored, and handled according to safety, quality, and moisture-control standards.
  • Remove scrap wood, broken boards, and waste materials from assembly stations and dispose of them in designated containers.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and hazard-free work areas, including assembly lines, staging zones, and forklift routes.
  • Follow all facility safety procedures, including PPE requirements, forklift safety practices, and lockout/tagout when applicable.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, assemblers, forklift drivers, and other departments to support continuous production flow.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the nail wood assembly department and overall plant operations.
