About The Position

This Material Handler role involves responding to emergencies, maintaining security diligence, and participating in Safety, Food Safety, Quality, and Production practices. The position requires preventing nonconforming product from being shipped and identifying/recording problems related to product, processes, or quality systems. The role also includes the authority to initiate actions to prevent non-conformities, recommend solutions, and suggest continual improvements. Primary duties involve observing safety precautions, wearing PPE, maintaining good housekeeping, supplying machines with materials, transporting finished goods and nonconforming products, collecting scrap, and operating various equipment like shrink wrap machines, resin handling systems, and grinders. Requirements

  • Capable of physical mobility including sitting, bending, twisting, standing, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Maintain an attendance record within company guidelines and working required overtime.
  • Read, write and speak English.
  • Past experience / proven ability within the specified disciplines.
  • Negative drug screen test results.
  • Capable of operating a Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) in a safe and cautious manner.
  • Must pass the PIT operator test and obtain a valid Berry PIT license.
  • Capable of passing a written basic skills test with a score of 75% or better.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or GED equivalency preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responding to any emergency or potential emergency.
  • Security diligence, including maintaining control of personal key cards, preventing unauthorized entry to the facility by non-Berry employees, and proper maintenance / security of Berry information and equipment within your direct responsibility.
  • Constant vigilance and participation in Safety, Food Safety, Quality and Production practices.
  • Prevent nonconforming product from being shipped to customers.
  • Identify and record problems relating to product, processes or quality system.
  • Initiate action to prevent occurrences of any non-conformity of product or quality systems.
  • Initiate, recommend or provide solutions through designated channels.
  • Suggest actions for continual improvement to products, processes, or systems and verify the implementation of solutions.
  • Observe all Safety precautions, Food Safety requirements and plant rules to prevent injury to self or others and to prevent loss of material or damage to equipment.
  • Follow and wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Maintain good housekeeping and 5S.
  • Supply machines with required and correct materials.
  • Transport finished goods pallets to staging area as directed.
  • Safely operate shrink wrap machines and document alarms or nonconformities as directed.
  • Operate resin handling system including bulk rail car unloading system, silo, bin, storage, and conveying system from bins to machines.
  • Transport nonconforming / rejected product to/from hold areas as required.
  • Collect and move scrap items to the appropriate scrap area.
  • Operate grinder, clear jams, clean grinding area, if applicable.
