The Material Handler plays a critical role in ensuring an uninterrupted production flow by managing the efficient and timely movement of raw materials, packaging supplies, and finished goods. This position is responsible for supporting the manufacturing area by supplying materials, preparing products for shipment, and maintaining a safe, organized workspace. Success in this role requires strong communication, presentation of a professional and safety-conscious demeanor, system literacy (including material tracking tools), and analytical ability to monitor inventory levels, solve flow issues, and identify process improvements.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • At least 12 years of experience in material handling or warehouse operations in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Forklift certification or willingness to be trained and certified.
  • Good vision and hearing required for safety and quality control.
  • Must be able to: Lift 5560 lbs. repeatedly throughout the shift.
  • Stand for long periods and perform frequent bending, twisting, squatting, and climbing.
  • Pull/push loads up to 1000 lbs. using a pallet jack.
  • Must demonstrate manual dexterity and ability to safely operate material handling equipment.
  • Commitment to working in a clean, organized, and safe workspace
  • Able to receive and relay instructions clearly; provides updates and alerts on material availability and issues.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and professional appearance while operating within high-visibility areas of the plant.
  • Comfortable using warehouse management systems (WMS), inventory tracking tools, scanners, and basic data entry in Excel or ERP systems.
  • Able to monitor patterns in material flow and proactively suggest changes to reduce waste and improve efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Transport raw materials, in-process components, and finished products between production and warehouse areas using pallet jacks, forklifts, or other approved equipment.
  • Ensure timely replenishment of raw materials, colorants, films, and additives to production lines to avoid downtime.
  • Load and unload materials from storage racks, trucks, or staging areas according to schedule.
  • Accurately label, package, and palletize finished goods for storage or shipment.
  • Dispose of waste and regrind material in accordance with company procedures and environmental regulations.
  • Record material movements using manufacturing software, barcode scanners, or manual logs, ensuring traceability and real-time inventory accuracy.
  • Report discrepancies in material counts, damages, or quality issues to the supervisor promptly.
  • Assist in conducting cycle counts or physical inventory as scheduled.
  • Maintain clear and professional communication with production technicians, quality inspectors, warehouse staff, and supervisors to coordinate material needs and resolve supply issues.
  • Provide support and break relief for machine operators, inspector packers, or other team members when required.
  • Participate in daily huddles or shift change meetings to align on material priorities or production targets.
  • Ensure work area is clean, organized, and compliant with 5S and safety standards at all times.
  • Follow proper lifting techniques and equipment safety protocols to avoid injury.
  • Identify potential safety hazards or equipment malfunctions and report them immediately.
  • Monitor raw material usage and production flow to detect inefficiencies or shortages.
  • Participate in problem-solving teams, Kaizen events, or improvement projects to enhance material handling processes.
  • Suggest improvements to layout, material storage, or replenishment practices to boost productivity.
