About The Position

WEEKEND SHIFT IS FRIDAY, SATURDAY, SUNDAY 6:00 AM TO 6:30 PM ($2.00 SHIFT PREMIUM ADDED TO BASE RATE) TOTAL OF 36 HOURS. POSITION SUMMARY The Material Handler is responsible for operating overhead cranes, forklifts, and semi-truck / trailer to move material around the yard in a safe and efficient manner. Learn proper rigging and loading techniques.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Strong interpersonal skills: ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of individuals; good judgment; ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously; ability to work effectively with others.
• While performing certain duties of the job, the employee is required to squat, bend, twist, lift, pull, and reach.
• Lifting is required up to 75 lbs.
• Climbing is required up to 6 feet off the ground on a ladder or loading equipment.
• Must be flexible in hours worked and willing to work overtime.

Responsibilities

• Promote a strong quality culture throughout the company maintaining Cooper Steel’s core priorities: Safety, Quality, Production
• Load and unload delivery trucks using overhead cranes and forklifts
• Read and understand load list to calculate material size and length when loading
• Understand units of measurement, general mathematical equations
• Operate equipment / machinery and perform other job duties necessary within the shop and yard
• Transport materials using tractor trailer trucks
• Inspect tools and equipment daily before use and maintain in good working order
• Other duties as assigned
