About The Position

MPS, a division of Macmillan Publishers, a leading US publisher of Trade and Academic titles, has a job opening for a Material Handler-Special Projects in our Gordonsville facility. MPS provides back office support, warehousing, and, fulfillment for Macmillan US, and is their primary distribution facility for North America. Purpose of the Role: In this position, the employee will perform the more advanced general warehouse duties to include making adjustments in the computer system; operating machinery; processing; shrink-wrapping product; operating stretch-wrapping machine, and performing short picker duties while meeting production requirements, following appropriate instructions and safety methods associated with the department they are assigned to.

Requirements

  • Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions; write legibly and effectively communicate information one-on-one and to employees and management.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to count, add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one or two step instructions, and to deal with standardized structure.
  • Education requirements: High School diploma or equivalent

Responsibilities

  • Ensures that all work order instructions are followed exactly and updates management when completed.
  • Prepares and organizes all components of a kit/display prior to assembly.
  • Operates shrink-wrap machine for college packs and special jobs.
  • Keeps management advised of any shortages, assembly problems, and incorrect labels/markings.
  • Ensures the correct quantity of books/components are packed.
  • Packs books/components in cartons using various dunnage materials to eliminate damage in transit or while in storage.
  • WMS – Looks up locations and retrieves order status information.
