As a Material Cutter you will contribute to Wenger Corporation's strategy to provide an exceptional customer experience by assisting the Floor Manager check the quality of fabric, preparing curtains for seamsters/seamstresses and other related duties.

Requirements

  • Able to lift, push, and pull 25-75 pounds
  • Strong math skills, especially in percentages, division, and multiplication
  • Strong knowledge of standard American imperial rulers and measurements from 0.25in to 1000yrds
  • Basic MS Office suite and computer skills
  • Good written and oral communication in both English and Spanish
  • Able to be on feet, walking for hours a day, potentially to 10k-15k steps a day
  • Ability to do repetitious lifting of 18oz-32oz/sq foot fabrics continuously for 8hrs/day
  • Able to do repetitive hand motions, including manually cutting up to 1k yards of fabric over the course of the week
  • Able to squat, lean, bend, reach, stoop, push/pull, and twist continuously throughout an 8hr day

Nice To Haves

  • Prior sewing skills, especially industrial sewing experience, are a plus

Responsibilities

  • Visually inspecting every yard of fabric to identify manufacturing flaws and pre-plan cuts for each production order
  • Pre-prep fabric for cutting and cut/stack into piles for each curtain height
  • Prep of curtains, such as pulling/pinning turn backs, arranging cut widths to hide flaws, etc.
  • Color matching dye lots in the event one dye lot will not complete the job
  • Assign curtains based on skill level, due date, and order of availability
  • Answer construction questions
  • Monitor and follow fabric return processes, including communication with Shipping and Purchasing.
  • Review and stay mindful of production schedule to prevent delays
  • Move and handle large bolts of fabric and other materials, as needed by sewing department
  • Fabric management: fold and move finished curtains from production to storage
  • Assist stitchers in measuring heights of in-process curtains
  • Act as backup for adding final notions to theatrical curtains such as chain, grommets and ties, and rivets.
  • Learn production processes to identify and address any issues or non-productive processes
  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors
  • Assist in quarterly inventory cycles
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and quality standards
  • Follow corporate policies
