About The Position

The Material Control Operator is responsible for accurately providing inventory information for company-controlled material stock. This role involves monitoring, organizing, and maintaining inventory of company products at multiple branch locations. Key responsibilities include completing material receiving activities, coordinating material movement to support production, operating material handling equipment, performing accurate data entry for material movements, and maintaining inventory identification tags. The operator will also identify and communicate material shortages, verify scrap, assist the quality assurance team with credits, and perform equipment preventative maintenance. This position requires working directly on the warehouse floor, often around heavy machinery, and adherence to all health, safety, quality, and Lean initiatives.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
• Ability to read and write English and perform basic math problems
• Basic computer skills for data entry into inventory management system
• Ability to use tape measure and calipers for material inspection/measurement
• Attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy in written work and data entry
• Ability to stand, bend, stoop, climb, reach and lift up to 40 lbs. with or without accommodation
• Certification to operate material handling equipment, examples include forklift, side-loader, 4-directional lift, or cherry-picker

Nice To Haves

• Some college course work, leading toward completion of degree
• 3 years of material control or inventory experience
• Previous experience safely operating a variety of material handling equipment (forklift, side-loader, etc.)

Responsibilities

• Complete material receiving activities for shipments between locations or direct from the mill
• Coordinate movement of material from stock to processing to support production requirements
• Operate material handling equipment as necessary to support movement of material
• Perform accurate and timely data entry within the inventory management system regarding material movements
• Prepare and maintain appropriate inventory identification tags
• Complete material consolidation tasks, including supermarket
• Identify material shortages and issues, and communicate to appropriate staff
• Perform verification of scrap
• Maintain a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail in all work
• Assist quality assurance team in activities related to credits
• Perform equipment preventative maintenance and clean up
• Participate, support, and comply with all health, safety, quality, and Lean initiatives and requirements
