About The Position

Seaward Services, Inc. seeks an experienced Deck Officer to assist the Captain on one of our new Crew Transfer Vessels (CTV), which will service wind turbines off the coast. You will transport crew, equipment, and cargo to turbines throughout the wind farm. You will assist the master in operating a 90-foot aluminum hulled catamaran with twin screw diesel propulsion. The vessel is equipped with radar, GMDSS, ARPA, AIS, and other electronic aids to navigation. The master and deck officer will split watch standing duties in accordance with STCW regulations. Standard offshore operations will include delivery of technicians and crew to turbines for service and maintenance. Dynamic and variable operating environments will require an experienced and focused Deck Officer, capable of handling a vessel in a variety of sea states. As the vessel’s junior officer, you will prioritize safety above all else and help establish a working environment that reflects this value. Additionally, your commitment to good seamanship, clear communication, and helpful supervision of deck crew will foster a productive, safe, and cooperative workplace for all crew. As the Deck Officer, you will strive to act in a manner onboard that reflects company values and codes of conduct. Trips offshore will range in duration from 12-hours up to 3-days. Vessels will primarily operate between April-October with reduced service during winter months. Work rotations will vary in length depending on crew levels and need. Mate must reside on East Coast.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • United States Coast Guard Merchant Mariner’s Credential (MMC) with a 200-ton Near Coastal Mate endorsement or greater
  • STCW 95 and the following STCW endorsements: II/4, IV/2, VI/1, VI/2, VI/3, VI/4, VI/5, and VI/6
  • GMDSS
  • ECDIS
  • RFPNW
  • VPDSD
  • Post hire - Be ability to obtain and maintain GWO Sea Survival and GWO Lift (Crane) Certifications
  • Radar Endorsement with ARPA
  • Must be able to acquire and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
  • Copy of DD Form 214, if Veteran Status
  • Two (2) years of experience as a licensed Mate or Master in near coastal or ocean service demonstrating the ability to handle increasing levels of responsibility or an equivalent degree from a Maritime Academy in combination with command experience
  • Must reside on East Coast

Responsibilities

  • Assist Captain with navigation duties and overall vessel operations.
  • Supervise loading and unloading of passengers and cargo.
  • Manage and operate vessel within legal requirements of USCG, class, COLREGs and other regulatory agencies.
  • Ensure operations are conducted in accordance with contractual obligations when safe and applicable
  • Compile, review, and maintain official vessel logs and other necessary reports and forms.
  • Monitor safety issues on vessel and correct problems under the direction of the Captain.
  • Assist Captain in role as onboard Risk Manager.
  • Assist Captain in cultivating a safe work culture and taking corrective action as situations may require.
  • Ensure compliance with safety management system and ISO program.
  • Maintain vessel integrity to support safety and a consistent state of operational readiness.
  • Manage ship Preventative Maintenance program.
  • Take a lead role in the training of crewmembers.
  • Organize and participate in drills with crewmembers as directed by the Captain.
  • Record all drill activities, safety inspections, and security exercises.
  • Act as Vessel Security Officer (VSO).
  • Schedule and perform safety audits as mandated by company policy and as circumstances require.
  • Take a lead role in maintaining and updating charts, publications, E-navigation tools, and GMDSS equipment.
  • Ensure that the performance and behavior of Deck Department team members meets legal and professional requirements.
  • Cultivate a harassment free and inclusive environment on the ship and between all personnel.
  • Participate in the development of task prioritization and capital projects in consultation with Captain.
  • Participate in Marine Department meetings as required by Captain or Program Manager.
  • Recommend discipline for infractions of policy by Deck Department team members.
  • Participate and recommend actions regarding interviewing, training, and evaluation of Deck Crew candidates.
  • Follow the onboard chain of command structure and duties assigned under the Watch Quarter Station Bill.
