About The Position

Big Brothers Big Sisters of New Mexico is a mission-driven nonprofit dedicated to empowering youth through mentorship. The Match Support Specialist will play a key role in cultivating strong, meaningful connections between students and mentors. This position supports growth through weekly lessons, events, and hands-on guidance, ensuring impactful match experiences and positive youth development.

Requirements

  • Education:
  • Professional program agency staff must have a high school diploma/GED and meet one of the following criteria:
  • A documented bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a field deemed appropriate by the agency, or be within six months of degree completion
  • A documented associate degree or two years of higher education from an accredited institution in a relevant field, plus two years of related work experience (e.g., social work, counseling, child development)
  • Four years of relevant work experience in related fields as defined by the agency
  • Additional Requirements:
  • Proven program management skills
  • Experience working with high school students and school-based programs
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication and confidentiality skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and standard office equipment
  • Valid NM driver’s license, insurance, and access to personal vehicle
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with both youth and adult populations
  • Familiarity with New Mexico’s cultural and economic landscape
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)

Responsibilities

  • Build & Strengthen Mentor-Mentee Relationships
  • Match students with caring mentors who can guide them on their path to success.
  • Provide continuous support to both mentors and mentees, ensuring strong, lasting connections.
  • Track engagement and measure the success of matches to ensure meaningful interactions.
  • Engage and Empower Students
  • Lead dynamic classroom lessons that inspire and motivate students to dream big and take action.
  • Coach students on personal development, life skills, and goal-setting, helping them build confidence and clarity about their future.
  • Collaborate closely with teachers and school administrators to ensure student success.
  • Recruit, Train, and Support Mentors
  • Identify and recruit passionate community mentors eager to make a difference.
  • Provide ongoing training and communication to ensure mentors feel prepared, supported, and confident in their roles.
  • Create Impactful Projects & Events
  • Plan and deliver exciting, hands-on projects and monthly events that bring together students, mentors, and the wider community.
  • Coordinate logistics, engage participants, and celebrate the success of each event to strengthen the mentoring network.
  • Collaborate for Collective Success
  • Work alongside a talented team of educators, mentors, and community partners to achieve common goals.
  • Participate in agency committees and engage with staff across departments to drive the mission forward.
