About The Position

The Master Set-Up Technician is the highest-level technical expert responsible for leading complex machine setups, optimizing production processes, and mentoring other technicians in the setup and operation of automotive manufacturing equipment. This role ensures that all machinery is configured for peak performance, supports new product launches, and plays a key role in continuous improvement and process standardization across the facility.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED (required).
  • 5–7+ years of experience in machine setup and technical roles in automotive or high-volume manufacturing.
  • Proven experience leading setups for complex machinery and mentoring technical staff.
  • Advanced proficiency in setting up CNC machines, stamping presses, injection molding, or robotic systems.
  • Skilled in using precision measuring tools (e.g., micrometers, dial indicators, height gauges).
  • Strong understanding of PLCs, servo systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, GD&T, schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Experience with ERP/MES systems and digital work instructions.
  • Familiarity with IATF 16949, ISO 9001, and other automotive quality standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical certification or associate degree in Industrial Technology, Mechatronics, or related field (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute advanced machine setups, changeovers, and tooling adjustments across multiple production lines.
  • Analyze and optimize machine parameters to improve cycle times, reduce scrap, and enhance product quality.
  • Collaborate with engineering, maintenance, and quality teams to support new product introductions and process validations.
  • Develop and maintain detailed setup documentation, standard work instructions, and best practices.
  • Train and mentor Class A and B Set-Up Technicians and machine operators.
  • Troubleshoot complex mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and control system issues.
  • Participate in root cause analysis, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure all setups comply with safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
