About The Position

The College of Education is home to more than 1200 credential and graduate students. The College of Education's work focuses on closing the opportunity gap. The College's impact is notable given the fact that we credential the largest number of teachers of any public institution in the state of California and have the largest Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) program in the CSU system. We seek an exceptional individual to join our team as the Master of Science in Instructional Design and Technology (MSIDT) Student Services Professional IA. Under the direct supervision of the Director of the SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union Center for Careers in Teaching and daily oversight by the Director of the MSIDT program, the Student Services Professional IA assists with the admission process, procedures and student advising for the certificate and graduate program and supports the daily operations of the MSIDT program. Provides information on admission requirements, program completion requirements, academic notice, and stop-out policies for master's students. Under direct supervision, utilizes university and department policies and procedures to assist students with transcript evaluation for admission criteria and program completion requirements. Assists with outreach and recruitment activities, with special effort to recruit students from underrepresented populations. Conducts program overviews and assists program coordinators with new student orientations. Oversees student workers. Provides administrative support to the full-time and part-faculty in these areas. Serves as liaison between department and Dean's office/oversees department operation. Responsibility for coordination and event planning of department meetings, retreats, and special projects. Researches, prepares, reports and compiles data (e.g., graduate students' needs). Plans and coordinates schedule of classes and space utilization. Verifies and inputs changes for scheduling. Maintains a social media presence for MSIDT and supports program website as needed. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or the equivalent from an accredited four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public administration, business administration or other job-related field. Specialized and relevant experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Working knowledge of the basic principles of individual and group behavior, as well as research and observation techniques for the purpose of recording, classifying, and interpreting factual information.
  • Foundational knowledge of the techniques and methods of interviewing.
  • Ability to gather and analyze data.
  • Ability to reason logically, draw valid conclusions, and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Ability to participate in and contribute to group meetings, conferences, and interviews.
  • Ability to clearly express ideas and make recommendations.
  • Ability to write clear and concise reports.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
  • A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment.
  • Reliable means of transportation for all local travel.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with graduate programs and students.
  • Experience working in a higher education setting.
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with Common Management System (CMS)/People Soft and or similar systems.
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with contents of university catalog and other publications pertaining to preparation for and admission to the teacher credential programs including integrated programs and traditional pathways.
  • Familiarity with computer software programs to develop workshops, correspond, and utilize a student tracking database.
  • Previous experience promoting and/or advising for masters programs.
  • Ability to compile, collect, and analyze data for program review and annual reports.
