About The Position

The CDC Foundation seeks an Education and Training Coordinator to support the Massachusetts Cancer Registry in the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. The Education and Training Coordinator develops and delivers educational programs to improve the quality of cancer data collected across the state. This role involves acting as a subject matter expert on national cancer data standards, creating training materials, and ensuring that cancer data specialists and tumor registrars stay current with reporting protocols. Key duties include contributing to quality assurance efforts, conducting data audits, and providing feedback on training initiatives to enhance the accuracy and completeness of cancer reporting.

Requirements

  • Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) Certification is required.
  • At least three years of experience abstracting cancer case records is required.
  • Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and cancer registry procedures.
  • Excellent communication, attention to detail, and the ability to analyze data and make recommendations are also crucial.
  • Ability to travel to Boston 1-2 times per year for on-site work.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference is given to 4-5 years of experience.
  • Working knowledge of the SEERDMS data system is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver training: Create and lead educational programs, online resources, and training sessions for cancer registrars and data specialists.
  • Ensure compliance: Help ensure consistent application of cancer case abstraction protocols and reporting standards by professionals across Massachusetts.
  • Stay current: Stay up to date on federal and national cancer data standards and regulatory updates to inform training and recommendations.
  • Quality assurance: Contribute to the Registry's quality assurance efforts, including data audits, feedback delivery, and evaluating the impact of training programs.
  • Subject matter expertise: Serve as an expert on cancer data standards and reporting requirements for the state.
  • Flexible and adaptable: Ability to respond to changing priorities or program needs, while maintaining discretion with confidential information.
