About The Position

The Marketing and Communications Specialist is responsible for leading Greenville Water's marketing and communications functions to strengthen public trust, enhance brand visibility, and support organizational priorities. This role oversees internal and external communications, newsletters, sponsorship coordination, and operational support for community-facing programs. This position plays a critical supporting role by providing strategic communications, coordination, and execution support to the Stakeholder Engagement Specialist and other internal partners.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, public relations, journalism or related field, supplemented by 3-5 years of public relations experience with a proven track record in a fast-paced environment in public information, media relations, or corporate communications is required; or possession of any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
  • Demonstrated experience producing newsletters, managing digital communications, and supporting community-facing initiatives.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and content development skills.
  • Strong project management and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, implements, and manages marketing and communications strategies that align with Greenville Water's mission, brand standards, and strategic goals.
  • Ensures consistent messaging, tone, and brand identity across all internal and external communication channels.
  • Supports executive leadership with messaging, presentations, talking points, and public-facing materials as needed.
  • Leads the creation, production, and distribution of monthly and quarterly internal newsletters, coordinating content across departments to highlight projects, achievements, and key updates.
  • Oversees the development and execution of external newsletters, including content planning, writing, editing, scheduling, and performance tracking.
  • Ensures communications are accurate, timely, and accessible to diverse audiences.
  • Supports the Stakeholder Engagement Specialist in the planning, coordination, and execution of community engagement initiatives and outreach activities.
  • Provides communications support for community events, educational programs, and public-facing initiatives, including promotional materials, messaging, and post-event reporting.
  • Assists with coordination and logistics for facility tours, ensuring scheduling, communications, and visitor materials are handled efficiently.
  • Supports water rentals and related outreach logistics, coordinating internally to ensure alignment with operational needs.
  • Manages the administrative and communications components of sponsorships, including intake, coordination, approvals, tracking, and post-event documentation.
  • Supports community partnerships by ensuring consistent branding, messaging, and communications materials, while partnership strategy and relationship management remain collaborative efforts.
  • Maintains sponsorship guidelines, tracking tools, and reporting metrics.
  • Oversees Greenville Water's social media strategy and execution in partnership with the Stakeholder Engagement Specialist, ensuring alignment with engagement goals and brand standards.
  • Provides editorial oversight, content planning, and performance analysis for social media platforms.
  • Monitors analytics and trends to inform content optimization and audience engagement strategies.
  • Collaborates closely with the Stakeholder Engagement Specialist, Operations, Engineering, Customer Service, Watershed/Lab, and Executive Leadership to ensure cohesive communications.
  • Coordinates with external vendors, consultants, and creative partners as needed.
  • Provides guidance and support to communications staff, as applicable.
  • Tracks and analyzes communications performance metrics, including newsletters, digital platforms, sponsorship visibility, and campaign outcomes.
  • Uses insights to refine strategies and demonstrate communications impact to leadership.
