About The Position

This is a technical services and scientific job and requires field and office skills relevant to public health and the environment in support of the Maine Shellfish Sanitation Program. Field work involves collecting, recording and data entry of accurate environmental data including collection of seawater, stream, and shellfish samples from the Penobscot Bay to the Canadian border by boat or truck. This work will also include working in teams to complete shoreline surveys which involve door to door interviewing of homeowners to identify actual and potential pollution sources. The amount of time spent in the field is variable depending on the needs of the program. Office work includes technical report writing in compliance with the National Shellfish Sanitation Program standards. Flexibility in scheduling is mandatory as weekends, holidays, and after-hours work will be necessary depending on the season and activity. Work is performed under general supervision.

Requirements

  • Intermediate education, training, and/or experience in the compilation and summarization of scientific field and laboratory data including coursework or demonstrated experience in natural resource science, management, technology, laboratory, or field work.
  • Flexibility in scheduling is mandatory as weekends, holidays, and after-hours work will be necessary depending on the season and activity.

  • Preference will be given to applicants with boat experience and GIS skills.
