About The Position

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: In the various areas of marine coastal environmental planning, to be responsible for the preparation of implementation studies, special projects and phases of major studies; and to do related work as required. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the general supervision of a superior from whom instructions are received as to objectives, methods and processes. SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Supervises the work of professional, technical and clerical personnel. ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED: To identify and undertake studies of marine and coastal resources management and to assess the viability of marine and coastal ecosystems as they relate to and have the potential to impact on the state’s coastal resources management programs. To be acknowledgeable in and able to analyze and coordinate state marine and coastal policies, under federal, state coastal law and common laws as it relates to and has potential impacts on the state’s coastal resources management program and other related natural resources programs. To work closely with cooperating agencies, committees and interested groups in carrying activities. To obtain input from such sources and to include this input in various studies. To present completed studies to governmental bodies and the public. To lay out graphic materials such as permit applications, technical reports and environmental impact statement for technical adequacy, subject matter coverage and conformance to policies and recommendations, and to make recommendations for acceptance, modification or disapproval. Requirements

  • A thorough knowledge of the key phases of the planning process, secondary data sources, methods of analysis and statistical presentation as they relate to marine and coastal environmental planning
  • the ability to use standard technical procedures and established methodology
  • the ability to identify appropriate procedures developed by others, test them and use them under varying circumstances
  • the ability to use maps, charts, aerial photographs and similar materials to obtain or verify information
  • the ability to follow general direction
  • related capacities and abilities.
  • Such as may have been gained through: possession of a Master’s Degree in Marine Science
  • Such as may have been gained through: employment in a position involving the performance of advanced level, professional work in the field of coastal zone management planning.
  • Or, any combination of education and experience that shall be substantially equivalent to the above education and experience.

  • Experience with harbor management planning preferred.
