About The Position

Systems Application & Technologies, Inc. (SA-TECH) is currently seeking to hire a Marine Diesel Mechanic (Heavy Equipment Mechanic) for our Marine Operations at Eglin Air Force Base, FL to analyze malfunctions and repair, service and maintain diesel engines and generators onboard a variety of seafaring vessels. This mechanic will also need to operate a variety of maritime vessels so a good working knowledge of the systems onboard, including but not limited to, diesel engines, generators, electronics, hydraulics, navigation equipment, radar, and Coast Guard navigations rules is a plus. You must work well within a team and may need to direct or be directed by others to efficiently correct any problems found onboard our vessels. Listed below are the basic requirements of the position (but others may be added as needed):

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Specialized training acquired through vocational or formal military school in similar studies.
  • Five years’ experience in relevant field with similar duties.
  • Must have the knowledge and skills, not only to operate various types of equipment, but also be able to troubleshoot and perform in-shop and open-water maintenance on diesel (or gasoline) engines, as well as repair the mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems that are associated with them.
  • Must possess a good working knowledge of onboard systems, including but not limited to diesel and gas engines, generators, electronics, hydraulics, navigation equipment, and radar systems.
  • May be required to be trained and certified in the inspection and removal and handling of hazardous materials/hazardous waste such as asbestos, hexavalent chromium, and radioactive gauges.
  • Comfortable in an open water environment offshore; not prone to seasickness and can swim .
  • A general knowledge of tools and equipment needed to repair and service vessels.
  • US Driver’s License required; must be able to be insured through Company’s vehicle insurance policy while driving work/government/rental vehicles during working hours, and for the duration of your work employment.
  • US Citizenship required and must obtain a U.S. DoD Secret Security Clearance prior to hire date and clearance must be maintained throughout employment.
  • All candidates will be required to pass a consumer report and/or consumer investigation to include SSN, Driver Record and Criminal Background Investigation.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical to include Drug Screen, Vision & Hearing testing, Medical Condition Certification and Back X-ray

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Coast Guard navigation rules is a plus.
  • Small boat handling skills are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect and operate machines or equipment to diagnose issues that need to be repaired, using pneumatic as well and hand tools.
  • Analyze malfunctions and repair, rebuild and maintain diesel engines and generators, as well as vessels with gasoline propulsion systems.
  • Examines parts for damage or excessive wear using micrometers and gauges.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of marine vessels up to 65’, including outboard-powered gasoline boats.
  • All work will be performed in accordance with commercial and local accepted trade practices, marine repair manuals and/or technical orders.
  • Clean and maintain vessels and the boat shop.
  • Assist others as needed to assemble and disassemble equipment.
  • Repair and service vessels using a strong knowledge of tools and equipment.
