About The Position

Palmetto Bluff is nestled along the May River in the Lowcountry of South Carolina between Hilton Head Island and Savannah. Job Summary: The Wilson Landing Forklift Operator serves as the heartbeat of our team; you will communicate closely with our Marina Reservations team, coordinate with, and lead our Dock Hand team as needed to prepare boat club boats and member boats. The Operator is responsible for the safe operation of the forklift in all maneuvers, lifting, lowering, fueling, traveling safely through pedestrian traffic zones, launching and recovering boats within our dry-stack marina. The Operator is responsible for the mechanical and cosmetic condition of the forklift and will be required to assist in repairs and perform routine machine maintenance. Requirements

  • Prior forklift experience is not required.
  • Able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Capable of multi-tasking.
  • Self-driven and able to work independently and as part of a team

  • Ability to communicate well with members, guests and co-workers
  • High school graduate
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to operate reservation software and tablet

Nice To Haves

  • Strongly prefer 2 years of experience operating a forklift at a boat storage facility.
  • Knowledge of machinery and tools, including their uses, benefits, repair and maintenance

Responsibilities

  • Communicate closely with Marina Reservations team on member arrivals, scheduling hoists, trailering services, maintenance calls, etc.
  • Proper use of personal protective (hearing protection) and communicative equipment while operating machinery
  • Monitor BoatCloud and StackTrack systems to coordinate the moves of private vessels, boat club vessels, charter vessels and service requests
  • Works with Marina Reservations, Lead Dock Hands, or appropriate Manager to ensure scheduled moves are completed in a timely manner.
  • Monitor gauges, dials and other indicators to make sure machinery / equipment is working properly.
  • Perform daily fluid checks and general operation checks of hydraulic lines and fittings, forks and fork pads, chains and rollers. Report any irregularities to management.
  • Ensure that forklift is operating safely, and schedule maintenance as needed.
  • Maintain service records and perform routine maintenance on forklift.
  • Assist technicians in trouble shooting and repairs on forklift.
  • Assist members while docking, tying, boarding and disembarking from vessels providing professional customer service.
  • Safely and properly launch and trailer boats and return to storage bunks.
  • Ensure all drain plugs are secure when applicable.
  • Rinse all vessels exterior, steering components, and engines before storage
  • Maintain and upkeep the dry storage racks, bunks and wash racks in facility and repair as necessary.
  • Gain a complete understanding and manage the inventory, use and storing of spill containment equipment and forklift oils and lubrication and demonstrate proper uses.
  • Perform daily walk through and assessment of storage buildings; ensuring members storage requests are fulfilled - organizing charging cords and boat covers are on or in storage box.
  • Performs grounds maintenance and ensuring cleanliness of forklift barn, fueling and pump out stations, and forklift maintenance closets.
  • Pump out holding tanks per member requests and from charter vessels
  • Assist and support with boat shows and other on/off site events
  • Provide outstanding customer service and effectively handle guests requests
