At RTX, the world largest aerospace and defense company, 185,000 great minds are united by purpose and inspired to make a difference solving the world’s most complex problems. With our three market leading businesses, world-class operations and investments in research and development, we offer capabilities and opportunity no one else can. Together, we push the boundaries of known science and find new ways to connect and protect our world. Pratt & Whitney is a world leader in the design, manufacture and service of aircraft engines and auxiliary power systems and has been revolutionizing modern flight for over 100 years. Join us and help shape the future of aerospace and defense. What You Will Do: Pratt & Whitney’s Operational Excellence (OpX) Core Manufacturing Engineering Organization is seeking a highly motivated Manufacturing Engineering Manager and Technical Lead to join our Advanced Manufacturing Processes Laboratory (AMPL). In this role, you will: Drive the development and maturation of new manufacturing technologies and processes, progressing them through Manufacturing Readiness Levels (MRL) and Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) to ensure readiness for production implementation. Lead efforts to transform the Advanced Manufacturing Processes Laboratory into a cutting-edge Industry 4.0 testing and development space, integrating smart manufacturing technologies and digital capabilities. Oversee upgrades and integration of Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT) layers to create a connected, data-driven manufacturing environment. Develop strategies for the adoption of advanced sensors, IoT-enabled equipment, and real-time data analytics to enhance process monitoring, automation, and operational efficiency. Develop and lead processes for grinding, milling, EDM, deburring, and other manufacturing techniques for high-temperature turbine airfoil components and other part family machined engine parts. Manage the integration and development of AI-enabled manufacturing technologies, including robotic/AI pilot initiatives to enhance process capability, consistency, and productivity. Design and execute experiments to validate new manufacturing technologies and processes in a simulated Industry 4.0 environment, ensuring scalability and robustness for production applications. Provide technical manufacturing engineering support to PW Module Centers and suppliers while recommending and driving functional strategies. Oversee project management, operation planning, programming, tooling, and development process delivery for new and existing manufacturing processes. Act as a focal point for the lab's Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) and support financial forecasts and capital purchases. Lead the implementation of new capital equipment—from specification and ordering through delivery, installation, and transition to production. Mentor, coach, and supervise manufacturing engineers (full-time, rotational, and interns). Expand laboratory services, manage SharePoint, and co-develop strategy for AMPL and long-range planning. What You Will Learn: Advanced methodologies for developing and maturing new manufacturing technologies and processes. Best practices for navigating and advancing MRL and TRL to ensure readiness for production applications. How to design, implement, and adapt Industry 4.0 technologies, including IoT-enabled devices, advanced robotics, and automated data collection systems, for a state-of-the-art test and development environment. Integration and application of AI-enabled manufacturing technologies for process improvement. Leadership and project management skills while collaborating with various Module Centers, suppliers, and vendors. Strategies for IT and OT integration, creating a seamless data flow between manufacturing processes and enterprise systems. Work instruction creation using Solumina and/or SAP MES and managing project schedules through Smartsheet. Advanced technical knowledge of cutting tool applications and design for complex part geometries and high-temperature materials. Robust methods for scaling innovative manufacturing processes and technologies while ensuring quality and efficiency. Best practices for supervising and mentoring engineers, fostering a collaborative and innovative team environment.
