Manufacturing Quality Engineer

Gaishin Manufacturing IncGrand Rapids, MI
$75,000 - $110,000Onsite

About The Position

We are seeking a Manufacturing Quality Engineer to support production and new part launch. This role is hands-on — working closely with operators, engineers, and management — to drive root cause analysis, reduce scrap, improve inspection methods, and support both internal and external quality requirements. The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for continuous improvement, working proactively to minimize scrap, reduce costs, and improve overall quality.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 3–7+ years in a manufacturing quality role (machining or aerospace preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of:
  • Root cause analysis
  • GD&T and blueprint reading
  • Inspection methods and metrology
  • ISO 9001 / AS9100 / ISO 13485 (preferred)

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on, shop floor presence
  • Lean / continuous improvement mindset
  • Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to drive accountability
  • Experience with automated inspection and gage programming (CMM, vision systems, probing, etc.)
  • Familiarity with software such as PC-DMIS, Calypso, or similar
  • Strong understanding of measurement systems analysis (MSA), including Gage R&R
  • Experience improving inspection efficiency in a high-mix, low-volume environment

Responsibilities

  • Own quality performance for assigned products and processes
  • Be present on the shop floor daily to identify issues and drive resolution
  • Ensure only conforming product moves forward—stop issues when needed
  • Lead root cause analysis (5 Why, Fishbone, etc.) for internal and customer issues
  • Drive timely and effective corrective actions (CARs)
  • Hold cross-functional teams accountable to closure and measurable results
  • Identify and eliminate sources of scrap, rework, and inefficiency
  • Track and improve key metrics:
  • Scrap %
  • First Pass Yield
  • Cost of Nonconformance
  • Partner with operations to implement permanent fixes—not temporary containment
  • Support contract review and quality planning for new parts
  • Develop control plans, inspection plans, and gaging strategies
  • Lead PPAP submissions and ensure successful first-time approvals.
  • Implement and sustain process controls at the machine level
  • Develop and optimize inspection methods to ensure accuracy and efficiency
  • Program and maintain automated gaging systems (CMM, vision systems, in-process probing, etc.) to improve inspection speed, repeatability, and reliability
  • Lead the transition from manual inspection to automated, standardized gaging systems across the facility
  • Ensure all gaging methods are capable, repeatable, and aligned with customer requirements
  • Act as a key point of contact for customer quality concerns
  • Support customer audits and communication
  • Work with suppliers to resolve quality issues and improve incoming quality
  • Generate and execute WIN Ideas and WIN Actions related to quality
  • Actively participate in Kaizen events and improvement initiatives
  • Support company initiatives such as:
  • Setup reduction (SMED)
  • Data integrity
  • Training and workforce development
  • Work closely with Process Engineers, Project Engineers, and Operations as part of a unified engineering team
  • Partner with Process Engineers to improve machining processes, reduce variation, and increase capability
  • Collaborate on tooling, fixturing, and process development to ensure quality is built into the process—not inspected at the end
  • Participate in daily and weekly engineering discussions to align on priorities, issues, and improvements
  • Support production teams with inspection methods, gaging, and interpretation of specifications.
  • Review and approve First Article Inspections (FAIs), PPAPs, and customer-required certifications.
  • Investigate nonconformances and lead root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions.
  • Partner with operators and engineers to reduce scrap, rework, and downtime.
  • Encourage operator involvement in quality and improvement initiatives.
  • Share data and metrics with leadership to drive better decision-making.

Benefits

  • Competitive pay ($75,000 - $110,000) based on experience.
  • Comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, vision, 401(k), and PTO.
  • A growing, family-oriented work environment with cutting-edge technology.
  • The opportunity to build and optimize processes in a world-class facility.
