About The Position

The Manufacturing Process Engineer III plays a key role in driving business growth and continuous improvement within Ketjen’s refinery catalyst manufacturing operations. Based at our Bayport Facility, this role is part of the Catalyst Process Engineering Group and is responsible for leading and supporting process design and engineering activities across front-end engineering, detailed project execution, and commissioning and start-up efforts. The ideal candidate brings strong process engineering expertise, hands-on plant experience, and the ability to lead projects and collaborate effectively across a manufacturing organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemical Engineering (preferred).
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in an operating plant environment, process design group, or R&D organization.
  • Strong command of material and energy balance calculations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of process design fundamentals, including mass and heat balances, PFDs/P&IDs, PHAs/EHAs, PSV design, and commissioning/start-up.
  • Proficient knowledge of process equipment and instrumentation.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams across a manufacturing organization.

  • Demonstrated success leading or implementing projects delivering measurable improvements in cost, quality, HS&E, capacity, or operability.
  • Proven experience serving as a process design lead.

  • Working knowledge of basic process control concepts.
  • Experience operating within a stage-gate project management framework.

Responsibilities

  • Provide process design leadership for change and expansion projects across all production facilities on site.
  • Develop and apply expertise in refinery catalyst manufacturing, serving as a technical resource to the organization.
  • Lead and support mass and energy balance development, PFDs, P&IDs, PHAs/EHAs, PSV design, and commissioning/start-up activities.
  • Lead small project teams during the pre-project (front-end engineering) phase, ensuring quality, planning, and timely delivery.
  • Contribute as a process design team member on larger projects through detailed engineering and execution phases.
  • Develop and champion initiatives that drive significant improvements in cost, quality, operability, capacity, and HS&E performance.
  • Apply working knowledge of process economics to support sound technical and business decisions.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in process design, supporting standardization, training, and coaching across the organization.
  • Partner effectively with operations, engineering, and other stakeholders at all levels of the manufacturing organization.
  • Support safe, reliable operations through strong equipment, instrumentation, and basic process control knowledge.
