The Manufacturing Manager (Finishing Excellence) is responsible for leading the daily operations of the Finish Department, ensuring a safe, high-quality, and efficient production environment. This role involves close collaboration with team leads to optimize workflow, staffing, and training within finishing processes, while also spearheading continuous improvement initiatives and cost reduction efforts. The manager is tasked with monitoring quality, productivity, and equipment performance, implementing corrective actions when necessary. As a people leader, this position focuses on coaching and developing associates and works with plant leadership and HR to achieve business and workforce objectives.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment required
  • 3+ years of supervisory experience required
  • Demonstrated highly developed problem solving and project management skills
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Operations Management, Business Management or related field preferred
  • Experience in cabinetry production preferred
  • Knowledge of wood finishing materials a plus

Responsibilities

  • Champion a culture of safety by ensuring compliance with company policies through observation, reporting, communication, and corrective action.
  • Lead daily and weekly production activities across finishing areas (overhead lines, sanding, and off-line operations) to meet efficiency, quality, and reporting requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to improve product flow, reduce rework and warranties, and enhance overall quality and productivity.
  • Monitor finishing processes, materials, and equipment performance; initiate and document corrective and preventive actions as needed.
  • Partner with Finish Room Leadership to analyze field claims and production data, identify root causes, and implement sustainable solutions.
  • Establish staffing plans, training procedures, objectives, budgets, and forecasts using historical data and projected production demands.
  • Coach, develop, and evaluate associates against performance goals, fostering engagement, accountability, and strong team performance.
  • Communicate policy changes, priorities, and operational updates to Production Team Leads to ensure alignment and clarity.
  • Collaborate with HR on hiring, promotions, compensation changes, and employee development matters.
  • Contribute as a member of plant management in policy development, technical advancement, and initiatives impacting employee morale and performance.
