About The Position

Are you an engineering student eager to apply your coursework to real-world manufacturing challenges? At Mate Precision Technologies, we Respect, Support, and Inspire metalworking professionals worldwide—and we’re looking for a motivated Manufacturing Engineering Intern to join our team. In this role, you’ll work closely with Manufacturing Engineers, Machinists, and Production employees to support the planning, development, and improvement of manufacturing processes. You’ll gain hands-on experience with CAD/CAM tools, process documentation, and continuous improvement initiatives in a professional manufacturing environment. If you’re curious, detail-oriented, and excited to learn, this internship offers meaningful experience and the opportunity to contribute to real projects that impact production.

Requirements

  • Current enrollment in a four-year college or university working toward a Bachelor’s degree (B.S. or B.A.) is required.
  • Coursework or background in Manufacturing, Mechanical, or related Engineering disciplines.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical drawings, procedures, and manuals.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to present information and respond to questions from internal team members.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work with limited standardization.
  • Team-oriented mindset with the ability to work independently when needed.
  • Ability to interpret written, oral, diagram, or schedule-based instructions.
  • This is a part-time internship opportunity, with a schedule of up to 29 hours per week.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience or exposure to SDRC, SolidWorks, CadKey, and/or D.P. Esprit is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Engineers, Machinists, and Production employees to provide ideas, analysis, and support for manufacturing projects.
  • Participate in the development, evaluation, and improvement of manufacturing methods and processes.
  • Support team-based projects and report progress and results to team members and/or management.
  • Confer with planning and design teams regarding product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods.
  • Learn and apply Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) concepts.
  • Analyze drawings, sketches, blueprints, and design data to determine dimensions, machining configurations, tooling selection, and machine speeds and feed rates.
  • Input, review, and correct manufacturing process routings within the company database
  • Write instruction sheets and tool cutter lists to support machine setup and operation.
  • Revise machine tool programs to correct errors or omissions.
  • Observe machine trial runs to validate programs and process instructions.
  • Provide feedback at the conclusion of the internship, including key takeaways and recommendations to enhance Mate’s internship program.
