About The Position

We are seeking a hands-on Manufacturing Engineering Intern for a 10-week summer internship supporting critical continuous improvement and new product introduction efforts. This role offers the opportunity to co-lead a Kaizen event on a high-volume production line and play a key role in launching a new manufacturing line. This internship is ideal for someone eager to get out on the production floor and provides real-world experience in Lean principles, process optimization, and cross-functional problem solving beyond typical intern-level exposure.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a B.S. in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering field.
  • College student entering their Junior or Senior year in the fall.
  • Understanding of Lean and Six Sigma principals (5S, line balancing, Kaizen, DMAIC, value stream mapping, etc.)
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing processes (e.g., machining, assembly, automation, injection molding, stamping, etc.).
  • Understanding of root cause analysis methods (5 Whys, Fishbone, etc.).
  • Capable of data analysis, basic statistics, and Excel.
  • Strong problem-solving mindset.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with cross functional teams.
  • Willingness to work on the production floor and learn hands-on.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior co-op/internship in manufacturing.
  • Prior use of Lean, Six Sigma, or process improvement tools in a production environment.

Responsibilities

  • Implement Lean initiatives to improve operational efficiency, 5S, reduce waste, and enhance product quality.
  • Conduct value stream mapping, root cause analysis, and co-lead a Kaizen workshop to identify and implement process improvements on one of our high volume production lines.
  • Perform time studies, workflow analysis, and capacity assessments.
  • Assist in creating or updating standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions.
  • Support manufacturing engineers with process development, optimization, and documentation.
  • Work with cross functional teams to support new product introduction (NPI) activities.
  • Participate in the design, testing, and implementation of fixtures, tools, and process aids.
  • Support efforts to improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost through engineering solutions.
