About The Position

The Manufacturing Engineering Engineer I will work out of our Houston, TX location in the Abbott Vascular division. This is a fully onsite role. The Manufacturing Engineering Engineer I implements and sustains Operational Excellence (OPEX) initiatives and projects in all plant functions. Determines the most efficient sequence of operations through evaluation of human work factors, quality control, inventory control and production coordination. Establishes methods for maximum utilization of facilities and personnel. Conducts studies to cost control, cost reduction, inventory control and production record systems. Apply scientific, engineering knowledge, mathematics and ingenuity basic engineering assignments. Abbott Vascular provides innovative, minimally invasive and cost-effective products for treatment of vascular disease. Our extensive portfolio includes drug-eluting stents, bare metal stents, guide wires, balloon dilatation catheters, imaging catheters and software, vessel closure devices and peripheral stents.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering field
  • 0-2 years of related experience.
  • Ability to form and develop interpersonal, professional relationships; display socially and professionally appropriate behavior.
  • Ability to work independently and in groups.
  • Ability to work cross functionally
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills, critical thinking and ability or aptitude to use various types of databases and another computers software.
  • Proficiency in PC based tools such as MS Office (Excel, Word, Project and Power Point), AutoCad and general web-based applications.

Nice To Haves

  • Lean Manufacturing and/or Project Management certified are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop manufacturing solutions that support the operations strategic directives through the application of statistical methods and performing mathematical calculations.
  • Analyzes, creates and develops facilities layout to support cycle time reduction and productivity improvements. This includes meeting with suppliers or vendors, staff and management personnel regarding purchases, procedures, product specifications, and presenting project status.
  • Perform capacity analysis for headcount and equipment, as well as maintaining labor standard and headcount/ equipment profiles.
  • Offer technical support to other departments in flow, ergonomics and productivity projects.
  • Apply standard engineering principles and methodologies to interpret problems. Create/modify designs. Draw conclusions and recommend options for solutions.
  • Develops and maintains productivity metrics. Participate on cross-functional teams to support organizational goals.
  • Identifies and eliminates non-value added activities using continuous improvement tools and DMAIC methodology.
  • Develop manufacturing methods, labor and equipment utilization methods and cost analysis systems to promote efficient staff, materials and facility utilization. This includes analyzing BOM and routing processes focusing on business strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with all Abbott procedures and all applicable regulatory agency requirements.
  • Understand and comply with applicable Quality and EHS Policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
