The Manufacturing & Maintenance Facilities Engineer is responsible for the reliability, performance, and regulatory compliance of all plant utilities, building systems, and wastewater operations. This role ensures that facility infrastructure supports safe, efficient, and compliant manufacturing. The engineer oversees utilities (steam, HVAC, compressed air, water, chiller), wastewater treatment systems, building maintenance, vendor coordination, and continuous improvement projects that enhance site performance and environmental compliance. He/she manages Capex Projects related to equipment and the facility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, Chemical, Environmental, or Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 3–7 years of facilities, utilities, or wastewater experience in manufacturing preferred.
  • Holds Georgia Wastewater Plant Operation License
  • Ability to read P&IDs, utility layouts, and facility drawings.
  • Familiarity with environmental permitting, wastewater discharge requirements, and local regulatory frameworks.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations, Safety programs, and WC management.
  • Knowledge and experience with GMP, SSOP, ISO, and ERP systems is a plus.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Ability to demonstrate outstanding leadership skills and capabilities.
  • Required to stand, kneel, walk and sit when performing essential job functions.
  • Occasional lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in food, beverage, or fermentation environments a plus of supervisory or project management experience (in food industry is a plus)
  • Bilingual in Chinese or Spanish is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operation and reliability of plant utilities.
  • Lead operation, monitoring, and optimization of the plant wastewater treatment system.
  • Conduct daily wastewater performance & testing: flow rates, BOD/COD trends, ammonia, pH, suspended solids, tank levels, pump performance, and alarms/events
  • Troubleshoot WWT issues (e.g., high ammonia, excessive solids, chemical imbalance, sludge settling problems)
  • Lead facility-related capital projects and upgrades. Manage and improve site infrastructure, including roofs, floors, drains, docks, doors, warehouse conditions, lighting, security systems, and exterior grounds.
  • Oversee contractor work for facility repairs, replacements, and inspections.
  • Ensure safe, organized, and compliant facility conditions across all operational areas.
  • Maintain documentation, including SOPs, P&IDs, utility drawings, emergency response procedures, and compliance records.
  • Support design and execution of WWT upgrades, including automation improvements, flow equalization, chemical dosing systems, blowers, clarifiers, or additional process units
  • Develop and optimize preventive and predictive maintenance programs to reduce downtime and extend equipment life.
  • Ensure utilities operate within regulatory, safety, and environmental requirements.
  • Schedule repair, maintenance, and installation of machines, tools, and equipment to ensure continuous production operations.
  • Manage engineering SAP processes, maintain CMMS data accuracy for equipment assets, PMs, and work orders.
  • Direct maintenance activities on utility systems to provide a continuous supply of heat, steam, electric power, gas, or air required for operations.
  • Develop a utilities and facilities preventive maintenance program in conjunction with engineering and maintenance staff.
  • Ability to identify and improve utilities and facility cost improvement.
  • Confer with management, engineering, and quality control personnel to resolve maintenance problems and recommend measures to improve operations and conditions of machines and equipment.
  • Support management of spare parts, company fixed assets and used machines.
  • Provides technical support to other Americas Zone projects.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory agencies.
  • Foster cross-functional collaboration with other functions.
  • Responsible for activities that ensure food safety, authenticity, integrity, and quality.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.
