The role of the Manufacturing Process Engineer will be responsible for monitoring current manufacturing processes and cost, identification and implementation of process improvements, and supporting daily manufacturing operations needs as assigned. The Manufacturing Process Engineer will work in collaboration to successfully drive cost out of Tri Tool's manufacturing process by reducing lead times, and maintaining acceptable quality levels by working with engineering, production personnel, quality, and equipment and tooling vendors, at a minimum. To be successful in this role, the Manufacturing Process Engineer will meet or exceed department goals and performance metrics. This position is expected to work both independently and in teams with a focus on lean manufacturing initiatives. This is a full-time exempt position reporting to the Director of Operations and is located in Rancho Cordova, CA.

  • Perform shop walks with Director of Operations and Manufacturing Lead Person.
  • Interface with Machinists; Resolve questions / issues.
  • Create and manage manufacturing routings and process documentation.
  • Review completed job routings and perform cost reviews.
  • Review current and complete job cost over-runs and working with the foreman to take corrective action. Including changes in tooling, programming, setup/fixturing and routing/traveler changes.
  • Identify opportunities or implement changes to improve products or reduce costs using knowledge of fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment, assembly methods, quality control standards, or product design, materials and parts.
  • Collaborate with the Engineering department on new product development initiatives with an emphasis on design for manufacturability.
  • Apply working knowledge of product design and assembly to the manufacturing process.
  • Incorporate new methods and processes to improve existing operations.
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions and cross-departmental meetings to ensure collaborating and cohesion.
  • Investigate or resolve operational problems, such as material use variances or bottlenecks.
  • Design layout of equipment or workspaces to achieve maximum efficiency.
  • Apply continuous improvement methods such as lean manufacturing to enhance manufacturing quality, reliability, or cost-effectiveness.
  • Communicate manufacturing capabilities, such as effective methods, or other information to facilitate production processes.
  • Observe and give feedback on current and potential methods, equipment, and processes and manage KPIs.
  • Participate in Tri Tool Safety Walks
  • Work with Manufacturing Lead Person, Director of Operations and People and Culture Department with any Safety Incident Reports
  • Interface with QA / Participate in Material Review Board meetings
  • Work with purchasing where required to identify materials to cut costs.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is required. Additional post-secondary coursework or experience in Engineering or Manufacturing Technology is preferred.
  • 2 years experience as a Manufacturing Engineer
  • 1-2 years CAD / CAM familiarity required, experience a plus. SolidWorks experience preferred. Mastercam software, a plus.
  • 3-5 years' experience in manufacturing costing / estimating, highly preferred within a machining environment
  • 1-2 years ERP experience, preferably with NetSuite
  • Proficient working in MS Windows OS and with MS Office programs
  • Experience working with internal / external customers and cross-functional teams
  • Skilled at conducting root cause analysis and problem solving to resolution
  • Ability to read and comprehend manufacturing engineering drawings, including ANSI Y14.5 callouts
  • Must be able to handle multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with ability to work well under pressure and with others
  • Ability to perform with minimal supervision to work independently and be successful
  • Must have strong verbal and written skills
  • Experience as a machinist or an engineer within a machining environment
  • Project management experience.
  • Strong experience with analytical and problem-solving skills, superior time management, organizational and planning skills
  • Lean manufacturing skills
  • Strong statistical background
