About The Position

Motis Brands is seeking a highly skilled Manufacturing Engineer to lead the optimization of our operations through process refinement and the implementation of advanced automation. This role is responsible for the design, integration, and ongoing support of robotics cells and automated manufacturing systems. The engineer will drive Lean manufacturing initiatives and support new product development (NPD) deployment while ensuring a safe and compliant work environment. In this position, you will bridge the gap between traditional manual welding craftsmanship and modern robotic precision to deliver consistent, high-quality results. Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Eng., Mechanical Eng., Industrial Eng., Welding Eng., or a related technical field.
  • Experience: 5+ years in a manufacturing environment, with at least 2 years focused specifically on robotic welding or automated assembly lines.
  • Technical Skills: 3D CAD (SolidWorks or AutoCAD).
  • Direct experience with aluminum welding processes and an understanding of aluminum metallurgy.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Deep familiarity with AWS (American Welding Society) standards and industrial safety standards for robotics (ANSI/RIA).

Responsibilities

  • Process Development & Optimization: Design and refine manufacturing workflows, focusing on cycle time reduction while maintaining quality.
  • Robotics & Automation Integration: Lead the selection, programming, and commissioning of robotics. Develop and maintain robot programs to ensure consistent quality and structural integrity.
  • Fixture & Tooling Design: Design, test, and implement custom jigs and fixtures specifically for aluminum assemblies to minimize distortion and ensure repeatability in automated processes.
  • Weld Quality & Standards: Establish and maintain Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and Procedure Qualification Records (PQR) in accordance with AWS standards (e.g., AWS D1.2).
  • Continuous Improvement: Utilize Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies to identify bottlenecks, reduce scrap rates, and improve overall shop throughput.
  • NPD: Work closely with NPD to ensure Design for Manufacturability (DfM).
  • Technical Support: Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for the production floor, troubleshooting equipment failures and providing technical training to robotic operators and manual welders.
