About The Position

Manufacturing Engineers at NDS Mesa analyze, design, develop, and implement methods to produce Nammo products that support the warfighter. The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for the process, tooling, work instructions, and training required to deliver product safely, efficiently, and on time.

Requirements

  • BS/MS in engineering discipline or physics with ability to perform basic engineering analyses (stress, deflection, flow rate, pressure drop, and tolerance stack-ups)
  • 3+ years of experience designing electro-mechanical manufacturing equipment using 3D CAD software
  • 3+ years of experience working with pneumatics, controls, sensors, and PLC’s
  • Solid understanding of metal working tolerances produced by milling, grinding, turning, and laser/water jet cutting
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing and applying statistics in a manufacturing setting
  • Experience designing, installing, and qualifying production equipment including hand tools, fixtures, gages, and semi-automated equipment
  • Capable of providing hands-on support and troubleshooting of assembly equipment in a production environment
  • Proficiency at authoring technical documents such as test plans, test reports, manufacturing procedures, and project reports
  • Knowledge and experience with selection of materials commonly used in tools, gages, and assembly fixtures
  • Basic understanding and experience in Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design of Experiments (DOE), Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA), and process hazard analysis (PHA)
  • Ability to obtain BATF approval to engage in certain explosive operations
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities
  • Action oriented with ability to work in fast-paced environments
  • Leadership or teamwork abilities
  • Technical writing

  • Preferred 3+ years of experience with CNC machining setup and programming

Responsibilities

  • Apply engineering principles to ensure safety in manufacturing processes that contain propellants, pyrotechnics, and/or explosives
  • Tooling design and documentation
  • Provide hands-on assembly training to operations team
  • Evaluate existing equipment and / or systems for methods to improve safety, performance, efficiency, and reliability
  • Identify and mitigate risks associated with critical assembly operations
  • Apply working knowledge of product design and assembly to the manufacturing process
  • Define maintenance for equipment and tooling through coordination with maintenance team
  • Identify and champion IR&D and continuous improvement projects
  • Coordinate and perform all necessary validation and / or process engineering evaluations as needed for manufacturing equipment
  • Review and provide feedback on product designs to ensure manufacturability
  • Author and maintain product assembly work instructions
  • Troubleshoot and resolve tooling and equipment electrical and mechanical issues
  • Author and present oral presentations outlining/summarizing progress on selected projects and programs to both internal and external customers.
  • Participate in and support internal and external audits
