About The Position

To evaluate the entire manufacturing system continuously to improve current processes, systems, and product designs for elimination of waste and recommend potential areas for improvement. Essential Job Results: Improve labor utilization by auditing the current labor standard against the planned labor standard and recommend areas for potential improvement. Next, implement & update the labor standard to reflect this productivity improvement. Prepare work standards and operating guidelines by writing or updating policies, procedures, and work methods. Gather information and make improvements to the manufacturing system by spending the majority of daily time on the plant floor documenting current conditions, analyzing the system for improvements and Kaizen events. Assist or lead the project management of the implementation of new equipment on production floor including gathering technical information, specifications, and capital justification. Contribute to the release and manufacture of new products by participating in prototype and pilot builds, design review and work method implementation. Enable shop floor team members success and facilitate improvement daily. Help identify areas for improvement. In some cases, the areas will be identified through data and reports (scrap reports; FPY reports, etc.). In other cases, the M.E. will spend time on the shop floor with team members watching, asking and listening to identify opportunities. Lead and/or actively participate in improvement projects. M.E. will champion assigned improvement projects. M.E. will be responsible for ensuring a methodical, documented process is followed to clearly identify root cause, review all possible solutions, identify the best improvement, fully implement the improvement, and audit. M.E. will participate & lead select Kaizen Events. Champion lean principles by using every opportunity during project and other team meetings to educate the team on lean principles to foster a culture of continuous improvement and removal of all waste. M.E. may also be assigned to develop and lead special training events, i.e. “ 5S is more than cleaning ”. Continue learning new production methods by reading, studying, attending seminars and participating in group discussion. Utilize great communication, information sharing, training, and team building to foster a “culture of continuous improvement”. Though most improvement projects are managed by processes, having employees who understand the importance of continuous improvement and eliminating waste and how it impacts our customers, our business partners, our business, and their future is the true foundation of a strong continuous improvement company.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree in Industrial Engineering or related degree
  • 2-5 years of “on the floor” manufacturing experience leading process improvement/waste removal projects
  • Problem solving experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience using BI tools to manage data and identify opportunities; preferred
  • Must work well in a challenging, fast-paced, positive, team-oriented environment
  • Willing to work outside normal job requirements as needed to support the overall company mission; must be willing to adapt to changing situations and work tasking
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines
  • A servant leader who enjoys helping others learn and improve
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications; CAD skills preferred
  • Must be very organized and detail oriented
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience in metal fabrication process improvement, specifically laser/punch, forming and welding/finishing; preferred
  • Experience in metal fabrication equipment advances including capital submittals and ROI justification; preferred
  • Experience in assembly process improvement including work instruction development, line balancing, operator training, assembly pitch creation/ improvement, and FPY improvement; preferred
