Manufacturing Engineer, Machining

Boom SupersonicCentennial, CO
9h$120,000 - $151,000

About The Position

At Boom, we’re building hardware fast — and that means machining is not a support function, it’s a core capability. We’re standing up and scaling an internal machine shop that can move at the speed of design, support rapid iteration, and ultimately scale toward higher-rate production. This role sits at the center of that effort. As a Manufacturing Engineer focused on machining, you’ll help design, build, and evolve Boom’s internal machining capability from the ground up. From specifying new equipment and laying out the shop floor to solving real-time quality issues and partnering directly with machinists, you’ll own how parts actually get made. If you love the smell of cutting fluid, thrive on ambiguity, and get real satisfaction from turning complex designs into reality— this is your seat.

Requirements

  • Experience as a Manufacturing Engineer in a machining-heavy environment
  • Strong understanding of CNC machining processes, materials, and shop-floor realities
  • Proven focus on process definition, flow, and execution, not just individual machine capability
  • Strong background interpreting engineering drawings and applying GD&T (ASME Y14.5)
  • Hands-on experience designing fixtures and tooling
  • Familiarity with CAM systems at a practical level (e.g., reviewing toolpaths, checking for collisions, understanding setup intent)
  • Comfortable living on the shop floor and in design reviews — often in the same hour
  • Demonstrates a strong work ethic and ambition, complemented by effective collaboration skills in a team setting
  • Excels in a high-energy, independent, and challenging work environment

Nice To Haves

  • Experience standing up or scaling an internal machining operation
  • Hands-on experience with 5-axis machining
  • Direct experience with airfoil manufacturing or turbomachinery components
  • Exposure to automation — PLCs, relays, solenoids, basic robotics, macros or automated cells
  • Experience leading New Product Introduction (NPI) for machined hardware
  • Strong intuition for how design decisions impact manufacturability, throughput, and cost
  • A bias toward building clean, organized, and scalable manufacturing systems — not heroics
  • Experience with CAM software such as Mastercam, ESPRIT, Hypermill, etc

Responsibilities

  • Design, stand up, and scale Boom’s internal machining operation with a focus on process, flow, and execution, not just equipment
  • Define shop operating rhythms, standard work, and manufacturing execution structures to support rapid iteration and increasing production rate
  • Own manufacturing readiness for machined parts: routing, revision control, tool availability, inspection strategy, and build sequencing
  • Lead 5S and cell design efforts to create efficient, repeatable machining workflows that scale to rate production
  • Partner directly with machinists and quality personnel to develop machining and inspection strategies for complex parts
  • Drive real-time resolution of machining, quality, and throughput issues on the shop floor
  • Own design for manufacturing and work hand in hand with engineering to make parts faster
  • Develop fixturing, tooling, and workholding strategies to enable repeatable, high-quality machining
  • Support New Product Introduction (NPI) as parts transition from prototype builds to sustained internal production

Benefits

  • long-term incentives/equity
  • a flexible PTO policy
  • many other progressive benefits
